With the Mass of the Holy Spirit in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Rome, presided over by our chancellor, Fr. John Connor, L.C., the Ordinary General Chapter began on January 20.
The main task of the Chapter is to examine the situation of the Congregation in light of the reports of the director general and the territorial directors and to address the issues proposed by the territorial assemblies and the members; to elect the director general, the general councilors, and the general administrator. In addition, it will take measures to promote the development of the spirit of the Congregation and encourage the fulfillment of its mission (cf. Constitutions n. 130).
In preparation for this moment of grace and discernment, the chapter fathers made spiritual exercises led by Msgr. Brian Farrell, L.C., secretary emeritus of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity and one of the advisors to Cardinal Velasio De Paolis, C.S., during his service as Pontifical Delegate. In particular, he invited the fathers to open themselves to the Holy Spirit, to conversion and growth in love for the Church, and to seek “more” in following Christ and seeking God’s will. The exercises concluded on January 17 with a Eucharistic celebration and the renewal of baptismal promises.
During Mass on January 20, Fr. John Connor, in his homily, urged the chapter fathers to allow themselves to be challenged by the Holy Spirit: “We are here because the Lord has called us to listen, to discern, and to walk according to the Spirit.”

Afterwards, the chapter fathers gathered in the Chapter Hall to sing the Veni Creator. In his opening message, Fr. John urged the participants to live these days “with an open heart, with inner freedom, with love for the truth, and with confidence that the Holy Spirit will guide them,” pointing out that the Chapter is a time of hope and an opportunity to be renewed by grace so that Christ and our mission in the Church may enlighten us and allow us to look to the future with confidence.
The week began with the presentation of the general director’s report. It was decided that the analysis of these reports would follow a synodal method, known as “conversations in the Spirit,” focused especially on listening to the Lord and to our brothers and sisters in order to achieve a common reading of reality from the perspective of faith, with its lights and shadows.

As part of the Chapter’s schedule, the Eucharist is celebrated every morning. In addition to the plenary sessions in the Chapter Hall and smaller group meetings, there are also moments of fellowship and fraternity, of prayer in common. During this period, in which two of our brothers, Fr. José Antonio Barco and Msgr. Pedro Pablo Elizondo, have passed away, Mass has been offered for their souls.
During these days, the chapter fathers have been entrusting the fruit of the assemblies of the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi, which is already underway, and of the Consecrated Lay Men, which will begin in a few days.

We conclude this first week with gratitude and hope, entrusting our work to the Holy Spirit, who guides the Congregation in this time of discernment, conversion, and renewed commitment to our service to the Church.
