CG 2026 is progressing: Deepening the mission with a spirit of listening and fraternity

Published on 30 January, 2026
General Chapter 2026, Legionaries, News General Chapter 2026

The second week of the 2026 General Chapter of the Legionaries of Christ has been marked by intense days of listening, reflection, and fraternal dialogue, focused mainly on the presentation and analysis of reports from the different areas of general administration and from the territorial directors.

The reports presented offered a broad overview of the life and mission of the Legion in the different territories and its service to the Church. This overview allowed the chapter fathers to engage in discernment with serenity, openness of heart, and a deep desire to seek God’s will for the Congregation.

Reflection has been given to the state of religious and community life, fraternal experience, priestly accompaniment, the shared mission in Regnum Christi, presence in dioceses and parishes, service in educational centers, and commitment to a solid pastoral ministry of prevention, centered on the care of persons. Special attention has also been given to vocational promotion, accompaniment of elderly or sick Legionaries, the situation of pastoral care for prevention, and improvement of processes that seek justice and respect for those affected.

The chapter members acknowledged and expressed their gratitude for all the work done by so many Legionaries who generously serve in their missions as territorial directors, community superiors, formators, chaplains, vocation promoters, directors of schools, universities, evangelization works, in parishes, and as collaborators in different dioceses. They also remembered their sick and elderly brothers with gratitude for their dedication.

During the presentations in the plenary session, there were moments of work in small groups. This synodal methodology is allowing for deeper discernment, in the light of the Holy Spirit, giving everyone space to express their vision and walk together towards the issues that the Chapter must address. All of this is done with the desire to focus on what is essential and what truly requires the light and consensus of this supreme governing body.

The contributions of the Territorial Assemblies and individual proposals are also serving as a basis for analysis, in a climate of realism, co-responsibility, and fidelity to the Church.

The capitulars joyfully received the Holy Father’s message to the participants in the General Assemblies of Consecrated Women and Consecrated Lay People of Regnum Christi. In his address, the Pope encouraged the members of the spiritual family to rediscover and authentically live their charism as a gift of the Spirit for the Church and the world, encouraging ever deeper communion among all its members. He emphasized that this communion—lived out in the diversity of vocations and in apostolic co-responsibility—is the work of the Holy Spirit and a living witness to fidelity to the call received. He recalled that “the Lord does not make noise, but his Kingdom springs up and grows in every corner of the world,” and called for a response of hope, unity, and openness to the Spirit in this moment of grace.

In this same spirit of communion, the fathers await with gratitude an upcoming meeting with the Holy Father. This audience represents a culminating moment of the General Chapter, in which they seek to receive from the hands of the Successor of Peter the pastoral guidelines that will guide their mission and the Legion of Christ’s service to the Church in the coming years.

Community prayer and daily Eucharist sustain the work of the chapter fathers spiritually. In one of this week’s homilies, it was recalled that the grace of the Chapter does not consist in coming up with many decisions, but in coming out with a transformed heart, more united, available, and guided by the Spirit.

Thus, the General Chapter continues on its journey, with a deep desire to respond to the most pressing needs of the Church, in harmony with pastoral plans and based on the identity and mission of the Legion of Christ.
