Father John Connor, LC, General Director of the Legionaries of Christ, announced in a letter dated March 4, 2022, the appointment of Father Carlos Gutiérrez López, LC as the territorial director of the Legionaries of Christ in Northern Mexico for a period of three years, starting August 1, 2022.
In the same letter, the appointment of Father Héctor Quintana, LC for a second term as territorial vicar is announced, as well as the appointment of the other members of the territorial council of Northern Mexico: Father Xavier Castro, LC, Father Julio Muñoz, LC (second term), and Father Arturo Guzmán, LC.
In his letter, Father John thanks Father Paul Lara, LC, because “he has led the territory with dedicated self-sacrifice, a spirit of service, and joy that has always characterized him. The last few years in particular have not been easy, and I appreciate the way he has lived them, giving testimony of faith, hope, and charity.” He also thanks Fathers Alberto Leal, LC, and Alfredo Márquez, LC, who are ending their term as advisors in the Northern Mexico Territory.
Likewise, the General Director of the Legion sent a letter to the Colombia-Venezuela territory to announce that Father Carlos Gutiérrez, LC will leave the territory to move to Monterrey, and to invite the Legionaries of the territory to begin the necessary consultations for the appointment of the next territorial director.
Father Carlos Alberto Gutiérrez López, LC
Father Carlos Gutiérrez, LC was born in Hermosillo, Sonora (Mexico), on July 23, 1974. He studied high school and a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Monterrey Institute of Technology, where he graduated in December 1996. In 1998, he was a collaborator of Regnum Christi in Santiago, Chile. He entered the Novitiate of the Legion of Christ in September 1999 in Gozzano, Italy.
During his apostolic practices, from 2001 to 2004, he was assistant of the ECYD in Santiago, Chile. He studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome, during those years he collaborated as an auxiliary of the general secretariat and as a member of the training team of the General Directorate. He was ordained a priest on December 12, 2009, and from that year until 2012, he was assistant to the territorial director for the apostolate in Colombia-Venezuela. From 2010 to 2012, he was superior of the apostolic community in Bogotá and local coordinator. In 2012, he was appointed territorial counselor of Venezuela. From 2014 to 2015 he was director of ECYD in Monterrey.
In 2016, he obtained a master’s degree in psychology from Divine Mercy University, United States. He was part of the training team of the community of religious of the General Directorate and was coordinator of the general area of family and youth pastoral care.
He was appointed territorial director of Colombia-Venezuela in 2018. As territorial director, he participated in the second part of the Gapítulo General of 2018 and in the General Chapter of 2020. On April 6, 2021, he was confirmed for a second term as territorial director of the Colombia-Venezuela territory. And on March 4, 2022, he was appointed territorial director of the Northern Mexico Territory for a period of three years.
