The Father Clemens Gutberlet, L.C., was born on August 28, 1966, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. After studying computer science and administration at the THD University of Darmstadt (1987-1993), he entered the Novitiate of the Legion of Christ in Roetgen, Germany, in September 1993. He took his perpetual vows in September 1998. He holds a degree in philosophy from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum and a degree in Canon Law from the University of Saint Thomas (Angelicum). He was ordained a priest on December 24, 2003, by Monsignor Brian Farrell, L.C., in Rome.

From 1997 to 1999, he collaborated at the General Directorate headquarters in Rome, and during the years 2000-2001, he served as prefect of studies at the Novitiate Center in Bad Münstereifel. From 2004 to 2005, he was responsible for pastoral work at Szent Benedek, Budapest, Hungary. In 2006, he entered the service of the Holy See in the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, a position he has held to this date. He is currently the general procurator.
