From March 8 to 10, the XIX International Convention of the Logos Priestly Center was held in the center of Amecameca (Mexico). Nearly 40 people attended – almost all couples – local Logos directors in various dioceses of Mexico, as well as in Central America (attended the directors of the apostolate in Guatemala and Costa Rica).
Present were Fr. Alfonso López Muñoz, LC, director of Logos, Fr. Antonio Rivero, LC, general assistant of Logos, as well as Fr. José Antonio Padilla, LC, who is the direct support to the Logos team in Aguascalientes.
In addition to the prayer and sacramental life during those days, a review of the year was made through panels in which two or three directors discussed both the cases that had positive results and the difficulties they encountered along the way.
Besides this analysis and shared reflection, various training topics were addressed:
“The mission of laypeople serving holiness and priest formation. Maxims of Christian perfection by Blessed Rosmini” (Fr. Alfonso López Muñoz, LC), as a presentation of a model of a well-formed priest fully identified with his mission, holy and wise.
“How to approach, understand, and motivate diocesan priests, detecting their needs” (Fr. Antonio Rivero; LC), based on the extensive experience Fr. Antonio has had as a formator of diocesan seminarians at the Mater Ecclesiae in Brazil, as vice-parish priest at the Santa María de Betania in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in legionary formation houses as a teacher and spiritual director, and finally, as a preacher of retreats and speaker at various courses on spirituality and sacred preaching in different dioceses of Mexico and Central America over recent years through Logos.
“How to speak of God in the modern world: Challenges, obstacles, and action guidelines to transmit faith” (Carlos Dalton), aiming to highlight the difficulties we all face today, priests and laity, in “talking about God” to today’s man, and considering the proposed solution by philosopher Fabrice Hadjadj.
Other topics also discussed included:
“Challenges for priests and laity: How to set priorities according to a correct hierarchy in our service offerings to bishops, seminary rectors (major and minor), those responsible for ongoing clergy formation, and priests in general.
“Family: Creation of man or God’s plan? The ideology of gender” (topic presented by Gianfranco Amato, president of the Catholic lawyers of Italy and director of the ‘Jurists for Life’ association in that country; also founder of a political party that promotes human dignity, the rights of man from conception to natural death, as well as the rights of parents to the guardianship of their children in matters of education and values).
“Commentary on the homily of Saint John Paul II on the ABC of fidelity” (Fr. John Walsh, LC), applying it to the life of the priest and how committed laypeople in Logos can help foster the fidelity of priests. At the closing sharing of the Convention, everyone expressed gratitude for these days of grace and blessing, valuing their special vocation to support, encourage, and assist in the formation and holiness of priests.
