On Saturday, December 16th, at the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls in Rome, the priestly ordination of Legionaries of Christ this year will take place. Currently, four of them are directly connected to Spain: Fr. Miguel Subirachs, LC, born in Barcelona, and the parents who are already exercising their diaconal ministry in our territory: Nicolás Núñez in Madrid, Edwin Pereira in Barcelona, and Wagner Campopiano in Valencia.

How do you see your vocation on the eve of your priestly ordination?

There is a certain respect and awe for the gift and the responsibility it entails, honestly. But there is also a lot of trust. The happiness and fullness experienced during these years of formation, with everything we have lived through, and the testimony of my brothers, consecrated men and women, and Legionaries already priests who dedicate themselves to their mission before God, fill me with confidence. I pray that God grants me a life of fidelity and dedication, following Jesus more closely each day.

The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few; does that worry you given the amount of work?

Honestly, not much. I like to work and to work well. But we are not only here for work. We are also here to be… My life makes sense when it becomes a conscious gift and offering to God, living with Him beyond what I do or the work I have. The other side of the question is whether I am worried that there are few vocations. And the answer is also no. God knows more. It is my duty to respond to Him and to seek that others discover God’s plan for their lives, which will lead them to happiness.

You were already a member of ECYD, a lifelong connection to Regnum Christi from a young age, and now a Legionary priest. How do you see God’s hand guiding you to this day?

There have been so many graces, so many gifts, so many blessings in the faces of laypeople, my fellow Legionaries, and consecrated men and women, that God’s hand is very certain amidst the light and shadows of life. A divine presence that becomes real and invites us to take on responsibility, a past, a common mission. I would like to emphasize that the invitation is not arbitrary, like a Deus ex machina, but that He has accompanied me beforehand and given me countless graces in advance. Personally, I perceive God as a great pedagogue.

How are you experiencing the process of renewal?

Completely trusting in God and involved in it, from the place I am called: in my mission and responsibility.

What is your next destination?

I am collaborating at a Vocational Center in Mexico City. The Vocational Center is a minor seminary where young people with vocational questions study their curriculum while discerning their vocation. We are a community of 6 formators accompanying 53 high school students. It is a task that feels very big to me but at the same time I see it as a privilege. On one hand, the Church and the Legion entrust me with their most precious treasure: the minor vocations. I call it a treasure because from these young men come great priests, like many Legionaries or even Cardinal Velasio de Paolis, of blessed memory, who was also a minor seminarian in his congregation. On the other hand, families trust us to help their children grow in virtue and wisdom, safeguarding the gift they carry in their hearts.
