Through a note, Fr. Carlos Zancajo, LC, territorial director of Spain, announced today that Fr. Alfredo Torres passed away in the early hours of this Thursday, June 2nd, at the age of 89, in his home at the Hispano Mexicano school in Madrid. He had been admitted to the hospital last Saturday, May 28th, due to respiratory decompensation, and received the last sacraments and the apostolic blessing. The doctors stabilized him and discharged him on Tuesday, May 31st. His health was delicate due to his age and the illnesses he had suffered throughout his life.

Fr. Alfredo Torres Villanueva, LC, joined the Legion of Christ on March 25, 1946. His first profession of vows was on June 13, 1948. He arrived in Madrid on February 8, 1965, and made possible the development of the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi in Spain. With him, the first group of lay members of Regnum Christi was born, who joined the movement in Zaragoza on January 3, 1968.

On this eve of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we entrust the eternal rest of Fr. Alfredo Torres, also asking for the intercession of Our Most Holy Mother, the Virgin Mary.

The wake will be set up starting at 3:00 p.m. today at the Territorial Directorate of the Legionaries of Christ in Madrid, C/ Camarines, 12 (Aravaca).

The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 3rd.

An online condolence book has been made available, which can be accessed here.
