At the end of October, the 2020 Territorial Meeting was held, with the participation of 70 Legionaries of Christ from the Mexico and Central America Territory, representing the 20 communities within the territory.
The objectives of this virtual meeting were: to analyze the current situation of the territory; to listen in order to understand different points of view; and to propose to the territorial director, P. Alberto Simán, LC, a course of action for the territorial project until 2026.
It began with a speech from P. Alberto, in which he commented on the current situation of the Legion in the territory. Subsequently, the participants had two team work sessions, during which they analyzed the situation of the territory. P. Simán participated in the different teams, listening to everyone’s contributions and sharing his points of view. At the end of the day, there was a time for everyone to share learnings and conclusions from the first day.
During the second day, the participants started with the common prayer of the midday hour. Then they had a broad exchange time to analyze some key points from the first day’s work, such as heart renewal, fraternity life in the communities, and apostolic priorities. Afterwards, they divided into teams to analyze some topics related to the institutional development of the Congregation and the final format of all the work being carried out. They finished the morning with a sharing of the day’s activities.
On the last day, the participants divided into working groups according to the theme each chose: Identity (general traits and evangelical counsels); Communities and fraternal life (communion and perseverance); Apostolic commitment (leaders, young couples and sections, educational centers and sections, evangelization of youth and sections); and Vocational promotion. The goal of this activity was to analyze the different topics in depth and to offer concrete proposals for the coming years.
The day concluded with an open forum where participants could share what they learned during these days and what they carry internally for their communities. At the end, P. Alberto Simán, LC, thanked all the attendees for their participation in this process and invited them to greater holiness, fraternity, and unity.
