A proclaiming the Gospel (Mk 16:15-20)

Published on 14 October, 2015
Eucharistic Hour

Gospel: Mark 16:15-20
At that time, Jesus appeared to the Eleven and said to them: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever resists believing will be condemned. These are the signs that will accompany those who believe: they will cast out demons in my name, speak new tongues, pick up serpents with their hands, and if they drink deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” After speaking to them, the Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God. They went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through the accompanying signs.

Fruit: Recognize the missionary work of so many priests, religious, consecrated persons, and laity who dedicate their lives to preaching the Gospel.

Guidelines for reflection:
We are celebrating World Mission Sunday. The goal of the Church’s mission is, in fact, to illuminate all peoples with the light of the Gospel on their historical journey toward God, so that in Him they may find their full realization and fulfillment.

1. Go and preach.
We must feel the desire and passion to illuminate all peoples with the light of Christ, which shines in the face of the Church, so that everyone may gather into the one human family, under the loving paternity of God. It is from this perspective that the disciples of Christ, scattered throughout the world, work, strive, groan under the weight of suffering, and give their lives. The Church does not act to extend its power or assert its dominance, but to bring everyone to Christ, the salvation of the world. We ask only to serve humanity, especially those who suffer and are marginalized. This going out and preaching is primarily focused on the testimony of a life dedicated to constant and selfless service to others. Preach the love of God with our lives to all the people we meet along the way.

2. The miracles that accompany us.
Today, maintaining faith is already a miracle. In the face of so much confusion and systematic attack by relativism (among other ideologies), maintaining faith is a true miracle. All humanity has the radical vocation to return to its source, which is God, the only one in whom it will find its final fulfillment through the restoration of all things in Christ. Let’s not expect great miracles in our lives… if God grants them, it is out of His infinite goodness, but that is not always the case. He also manifests Himself in small everyday miracles: waking up to a new day, having health and well-being in the family, etc. Every day, these miracles accompany us without much appearance. They are a constant presence of God in our lives. Preaching God is simple for those who recognize His presence in daily life. We proclaim Him in our family when we are generous, kind, understanding. We make Him present when we read His word together, when we attend Mass and receive communion. It is within our reach. Let us make this World Mission Sunday an opportunity to bring Christ’s love to others.

Purpose: Talk with my family about concrete ways in which we will give testimony of God’s love among us and with the people around us.
