On the occasion of the Extraordinary Holy Year convened by Pope Francis, the auxiliary bishop of Valencia, Monsignor Esteban Escudero, will lead a cycle of seven online catechesis sessions on mercy through the platform EvangelizacionDigital.org, an initiative of Regnum Christi and the Legion of Christ in Spain. The Year of Mercy will begin on December 8th, with the goal that all men receive “the balm of mercy as a sign of the Kingdom of God, which is already present among us,” recalls Monsignor Escudero. “It is a dual purpose: to show the loving face of God, and to respond to God’s love by treating all men with love,” explains the auxiliary bishop of Valencia.

“To contribute to this, and to live the Jubilee Year intensely, Monsignor Escudero will give seven catechesis sessions on Evangelización Digital under the title ‘Merciful as the Father,’ starting October 13th and continuing every Tuesday at 10:00 PM until November 24th,” state the promoters of the initiative in a statement.

“The first topic will be Christ as the face of God’s mercy, followed by others such as God’s mercy in the history of Israel, mercy in the Beatitudes, the Church that proclaims, celebrates, and relies on God’s mercy, or the path toward a civilization of love,” they add.

Evangelización Digital is an apostolic initiative of the Alter Christus Foundation, an apostolate of Regnum Christi and the Legion of Christ directed by Father Agustín de la Vega, LC. It was born as a response to Benedict XVI’s message at the 2010 World Communications Day, in which he invited priests to evangelize the Digital Continent.

Evangelización Digital organizes weekly online talks for all audiences. Part of its mission, given the circumstances many priests face, is to foster their personal, formative, and pastoral encounter through the internet. Since then, 34 bishops and more than 50 priests and religious have collaborated.

In 2013, it organized the first online Camino de Santiago, with over 1,500 participants from around the world. Later, the first online pilgrimage to the Holy Land, and also an online pilgrimage to Rome.
