Diploma in Science and Faith: towards the common search for truth

Published on 5 June, 2023
News

The relationship between science and faith generates ethical and anthropological questions that raises the need to propose meeting points toward the search for truth

The Science and Faith Institute of the Regina Apostolorum Pontifical Athenaeum, in Rome, presents the “Diploma in Science and Faith“, which has a duration of four semesters (two years). The course is in Spanish and in online mode. The registration dates for the diploma are from June 6 to October 31, 2023.

The relationship between science and faith is a necessary topic to address: on one hand, the incessant developments of science and technology raise new and urgent ethical and anthropological questions; on the other we find ourselves facing the so-called cultural and religious pluralism, which raises the need to propose meeting points toward dialogue and the common search for truth.

Educational objectives of the diploma

To develop theoretical-cultural competencies about the relationships between science and faith, in general terms, and offer a broad and deep formation about what this relationship means today: therefore the most current perspectives of scientific research will be the object of analysis. Each student will find, both in the didactics and in seminar and laboratory activities, the opportunity to receive an organic formation in relation to the main theoretical and practical questions posed by the sciences of nature and life. Specialized competencies will also be offered on the “science and faith” question in concrete social and political life, both in formative and informative areas.

Professional competencies

The Diploma prepares the student to be:

  • Experts in interdisciplinary didactic activity projects (middle and higher education, university, master’s, distance learning);
  • Experts in communication sciences and globalization;
  • Experts on the cultural, religious and political problems of the relationships between science and faith, to join governmental or non-governmental international organizations (UN, UNESCO, European Union, public institutions, public and private entities, non-profit sector, ethical and bioethics committees);
  • Operators in the field of formation and scientific dissemination, journalists, opinion leaders and similar figures;
  • Teachers and students of Catholic cultural institutions (Athenaeums, Universities, Institutes of Religious Sciences), who want to specialize their own spiritual and cultural formation.

Who can register for the diploma?

Students who have obtained the academic degree of bachelor’s in theology or philosophy or the academic degree of license or bachelor’s in other disciplines, or who have completed studies in religious sciences; teachers of higher schools, religion professors, operators in the field of communications, pastoral agents and catechists are also admitted.
