Fr. Gabriel Abascal Castro, L.C., was born on April 17, 1980, in Mexico City and was ordained a priest on December 12, 2011, in the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome. He entered the novitiate of the Legionaries of Christ in Monterrey in 2000, professing his perpetual vows in 2008.
He studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum (APRA) in Rome, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in both areas. His formation took place in various centers of the congregation in Mexico, Spain, Italy, and the United States, and since his ordination he has exercised his ministry in the areas of formation, spiritual accompaniment, and pastoral direction.
Currently, Fr. Gabriel is director of the men’s sections in Hermosillo and Obregón, as well as Local Director of Hermosillo and in charge of the youth ministry of Regnum Christi in the Northern Territory of Mexico. He has been director of the youth sections in Monterrey and Hermosillo, formation instructor in Regnum Christi schools, and collaborator in vocation promotion. His ministry is distinguished by his pastoral closeness, his leadership skills in working with lay people, and his drive for the apostolic growth of the Regnum Christi sections in northern Mexico.
