“Walking Together”: a documentary that brings the missionary family to life through voices and faces

“Walking Together” tells a true story shaped by faith and service. It is the first documentary about a family from Youth and Missionary Family (JyFM), and it premiered to heartfelt emotion at the Graduate Studies Center auditorium of Anáhuac University Mexico, North Campus.

Directed by Francisco Vargas, the project offers an intimate and authentic glimpse into the life of the Navarrete Correa family, who take part in the Holy Week Megamissions, facing everyday challenges with faith and generosity. The camera captures not only the moments of mission, but also the deeper meaning of being a missionary family: to love, to serve, and to bear witness to the Gospel through simplicity.

A New Narrative Language Inspired by the Gospel

The documentary was inspired by Pope Francis’ message for the 59th World Communications Day, in which he encourages us to “tell stories that sow hope and embrace pain with love.” In this spirit, Walking Together does more than tell a story: it embodies a form of evangelization through art and storytelling, rooted in ordinary life transformed by faith.

“This story touches the soul because it shows what often goes unseen: the love with which a family responds to God’s call to serve in remote communities,” said Brenda Treviño, director of JyFM, during her welcome speech at the premiere.

More Than a Journey: A School of Humanity

The film follows the preparation, sending, and return of the missionary family, showing how the experience transforms not only those who receive the mission, but also those who live it. Through simple gestures and mutual self-giving, Walking Together becomes a testimony that faith is transmitted above all through life itself.

The premiere was attended by missionaries, members of Regnum Christi, consecrated families, and institutional representatives such as Perla González and Guillermo Campillo from the Territorial Directive College for Mexico and Central America.

A Reflection of Many Families in the Church

For Fr. Emilio Díaz-Torre, L.C., this documentary goes beyond a personal experience:

“Walking Together reflects many families who continue to go forth to proclaim the Gospel today. As Pope Leo XIV said: we are called to be fishers of families. And what better way than by being a missionary family?”

With an emotional and relatable narrative, this production does more than document an event: it inspires us to live the faith as a family, in the ordinary, with a missionary horizon. A true tool of hope for our time.
