Testimony of Fr. Fernando Bustos, L.C.

Testimonies 2025

I was born in Guadalajara on November 24, 1991. I have a brother three years younger. At eleven years old, I joined the Apostolic of Ajusco. Initially, I hadn’t thought about becoming a priest, but the environment of the Apostolic captivated me and I felt at home. During the following years, I deepened my vocation. After five years, I entered the novitiate in Monterrey. This step was crucial because, if before I had joined the Apostolic because of the environment, now it was a response to God with greater awareness. The two years of novitiate were a growth in union with Jesus and in being a Legionary. The next two years I spent in Salamanca studying humanities. This was a moment of crisis, which helped me profoundly, as it was the time to solidify for whom I wanted to be a Legionary and that He, Jesus, would always be there. Subsequently, I pursued philosophy, which was a time to deepen friendships with my Legionary brothers and to see how studies are oriented towards the mission.

My apostolic practices were very varied. I helped as a novice and humanities teacher in Monterrey; later as an assistant for Ecyd and Reino and as a formation instructor in Guadalajara; I also supported as a novice assistant in Italy and during various fundraising tours in the summers. Over these years, I was able to discover two things: the family of Regnum Christi and the beauty of the apostolate, of seeking that more people be enamored by Christ.

The last years of theology have been a synthesis of everything I have experienced and a rediscovery of how God is present in every moment, in the ordinary and small things of each day. Rediscovering that He is the protagonist and continues to call me to His side. That is why the phrase that could summarize my vocation is God is love.

Now I am beginning a new stage as a deacon in the youth section of Brasília. A new culture, new language, new people, new challenges, and at the same time, the same convictions: God loves me and is calling me so that more people discover this infinite love of Jesus. I also found a new family in my new community and in the welcoming of the section and the Parish.

In the end, God does not let Himself be outdone in generosity and shows His love in every moment of our lives.
