Diaconal ordination in Chile

On August 10th, Brother José Nicolás Brown Domínguez, L.C., was ordained as a deacon and began his ministry with young people of Regnum Christi in Las Condes and as an assistant chaplain at Colegio Cumbres in Santiago, Chile.

At the Chapel of Colegio Cumbres in Santiago, Chile, from 6:00 pm (Chile time), Brother Nicolás Brown, L.C., will be ordained a deacon in a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Mons. Alberto Lorenzelli, Vicar General and Auxiliary Bishop of Santiago. He will be accompanied by his family, members of the Legionary community of Chile, members of Regnum Christi, and friends.

We reproduce the interview that Brother Nicolás has given to our communications office in the southern country:

José Nicolás Brown Domínguez, 37 years old, is from Santiago, Chile, and a former student of Colegio Cumbres, class of 2005. He comes from a family of five siblings: María Teresa, Paula, María Angélica, and Rosario. He is the youngest along with Rosario, his twin sister.

What motivated you to join the Legionaries of Christ congregation?

I have known them all my life, since I attended Colegio Cumbres from kindergarten, but it was in ECYD and later in my Kingdom life where I got to know the Legionary priests and the consecrated members of Regnum Christi more deeply.

What motivated me to dedicate my life to Jesus was primarily the “call” from Him, who gradually showed me that He wanted me to be entirely His.

How was your vocational discernment process?

I went through two moments of vocational discernment. The first was when I was in high school, and after finishing school, I moved in with my parents to experience community life while studying at university. After two years, I decided to consecrate myself to God in Regnum Christi and went to my first years of formation in Mexico.

The second moment was already being consecrated. In January 2017, the Lord came to meet me and invited me to follow Him as a Legionary priest. In mid-2018, I went to Spain to begin my novitiate.

What role do deacons play in the Catholic Church, and how do you feel about taking on these responsibilities?
