The Anáhuac Mexico University turns 60 years old

Founded in the year 1964 as part of the educational project of the Legionaries of Christ, its primary goal is to elevate the human and social condition of men and women in Mexico through comprehensive formation based on excellence and virtues.

With the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Mons. José Antonio Fernández Hurtado, Archbishop of Tlalnepantla, on February 7th, the commemorative celebrations for the 60 years of the Universidad Anáhuac, a member institution of the International Network of Regnum Christi Universities, began. The Eucharistic celebration was attended by P. Alberto Simán, L.C., territorial director of Mexico and Central America; P. Cipriano Sánchez García, L.C., rector of Universidad Anáhuac México; P. César Hernández, L.C., Vice Rector of Comprehensive Formation; P. Eduardo Robles-Gil Orvañanos, L.C., Vice Rector of Finance and Administration; and P. Lucas Tenier Machado, L.C., from the University Pastoral Department, among others.In his homily, Mons. Fernández Hurtado recognized the work that Universidad Anáhuac México has developed over the years, highlighting the role of its graduates in building a more just society. He also invited the university community to continue building a missionary, Samaritan, and open-door church, illuminated by the hope of the gospel. Mons. Fernández also reflected on gratitude and commitment to the construction of God’s kingdom.
That same day, at another moment, P. Cipriano Sánchez, L.C., rector of the university, presented to the participants of the commemorative event gathered at the Centro Cultural Mexiquense Anáhuac, the 2023 Annual Report, highlighting the most representative activities of the year as a testimony of the journey traveled by the university community. Among the aspects highlighted, the vision Anáhuac 5.0 was discussed, which describes the actions the university will undertake in the future, remaining faithful to placing the person at the center and technological innovation at the service of the common good, emphasizing that, to achieve a virtuous circle between higher education, society, and the economy, a disruption of the current educational model must be promoted.
Subsequently, P. Cipriano Sánchez, L.C., and P. Alberto Simán, L.C., accompanied by other rectors of the Universidad Anáhuac Network, the Rectoral Committee, and representatives of the university community, unveiled a commemorative plaque that displays the motto “Overcome Evil with Good” and the Anáhuac Promise that the university has promoted during its first 60 years of life.
To kick off the celebrations, after the presentation of the Rector’s Report 2023, an artistic performance with music and fireworks was held, involving students, graduates, and staff.
History and Educational MissionUniversidad Anáhuac was founded in 1964 as part of the educational project of the Legionaries of Christ and with the primary goal of elevating the human and social condition of men and women in Mexico through comprehensive formation. The university began its activities in a house located in Lomas Virreyes, with just 48 students, in two programs: “business administration” and “economics”. Under the rectorship of P. Faustino Pardo, L.C., in the following years, “psychology and human sciences” opened in 1965; and “architecture” and “law” in 1966. Simultaneously, and thanks to the support of visionary Mexican businessmen and entrepreneurs, the construction of new facilities in Lomas Anáhuac began.
The year 1968 was very significant as the first graduating class of Anáhuac graduates graduated, and the new campus was inaugurated on June 4th. Based on years of effort and trust, the university established itself as one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in Mexico.In 1981, the Mexican government recognized the quality of Anáhuac by granting it the “Right of Autonomy and Official Validity of Studies”. That same year, and with the aim of consolidating our institution in the southern zone of Mexico City, Universidad Anáhuac México Sur was born, marking the first step towards the formation of the Anáhuac Universities Network.With six decades of service, Universidad Anáhuac México renews its commitment to training leaders of positive action who seek the development of the human being and society; inspired by the faith of the university’s first students. Graduates are prepared to face the future with knowledge, values, humanity, and a deep sense of purpose.
We congratulate the university, its management team, faculty, and all its academic community, as well as everyone who has contributed to making Universidad Anáhuac México a reference of high-quality education centered on the person. Currently, the university offers 46 undergraduate degrees and more than 35 postgraduate programs, including master’s and doctoral degrees.Below is a commemorative video for the 60 years of the university.
