To unfold the development of people’s capacities so they may have a transcendent life, human and social contribution of Regnum Christi universities
The International Network of Universities of the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi (RIU) has met for six days at Francisco de Vitoria University with the objective of aligning efforts for the development of strategic projects in favor of person-centered education and integral formation. The meeting was attended by the RIU Council, as well as rectors and directors of educational institutions and network advisors. Among the attendees were Fr. John Connor, L.C., and Félix Rueda, general directors of the Legionaries of Christ and the Lay Consecrated of Regnum Christi, respectively, and members of the General Directive College of Regnum Christi.
“They have been truly enriching days that really open up the panorama of the formative mission we have as RIU universities and we are convinced that it involves integral formation, that is, unfolding the greatest development of students’ capacities so they can truly have a transcendent life”, explained José Mata, president of the RIU.

Aligned with Pope Francis’ global educational pact
Now it’s time to continue working: “We must maintain strong adherence to the global educational pact that Pope Francis has proposed and, on the other hand, follow all the schemes that are nurturing this digital transformation of our time, better understand the role of universities in the world, leverage technology to impact the formation of our students and continue being a network that proposes to the world a vision of man, an integral non-fragmented vision and a vision where Christ is also a great part of its center”, the RIU president pointed out.
This year, the assembly was held at Francisco de Vitoria University, and therefore, the attendees were received by rector Daniel Sada accompanied by other university and academic authorities. “As a network of universities, we are maturing and becoming increasingly aware that some projects we cannot do alone, but we can in collaboration with others, and this gives us the opportunity to do valuable things for society”, Sada indicated.
For his part, Fr. John Connor, L.C., general director of the Legionaries of Christ, highlighted that “Francisco de Vitoria University offers the assembly tremendous leadership in what it means to develop a Catholic institution with a clear identity. In fact, here in Spain, UFV is recognized as an institution that has a Catholic and evangelical vision, and it is a great model for others”.
The International Network of Universities is made up of 15 institutions in 5 countries:
- 8 in Mexico that make up the Anáhuac Universities Network.
- 1 in Chile – Finis Terrae University.
- 1 in Spain – Francisco de Vitoria University
- 2 in Italy – Regina Apostolorum Pontifical Athenaeum and European University of Rome.
- 1 in the United States – Divine Mercy University
- John Paul II Pontifical Theological Institute for Marriage and Family based in Mexico.
