Virtual Fifth Pilgrimage of Magdala: an Opportunity for Evangelization

Published on 1 February, 2023
News

“Exodus: Pilgrimage of Freedom. Walking the Holy Land with Moses”, the title of this activity dedicated to the route of Exodus

Magdala Center has issued an invitation to the Fifth Virtual Pilgrimage of Magdala, “Exodus: Pilgrimage of Freedom. Walking the Holy Land with Moses”, especially dedicated to a journey along the route of Exodus, as well as to a catechesis on the commandments of God’s Law.

This pilgrimage will take place from February 20 to April 13, being completely free and guided by Fr. Juan María Solana, L.C., director and founder of Magdala Center. The broadcast times will be the same as the last pilgrimages, that is: catechesis at 8:00 a.m. and the celebration of Holy Mass at 9:00 a.m., local time in Mexico City.

The organization of the pilgrimage will include: two introductory talks held on February 20 and 21. From Ash Wednesday, February 22, through Lent and Holy Week with the liturgical services specific to those days. On Resurrection Day, April 9, the Solemn Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated, along with the closing event. During Easter week, from April 11 to 13, final talks will be held.

Father Juan Solana comments: “For some time now, we have been doing virtual pilgrimages. In them, we explore parts of the catechism of the Catholic Church. We wanted to focus on this part of morality and the commandments last year, but due to COVID-19, we had to postpone it. In any case, since it concerns the commandments, we thought of the title ‘Exodus: Pilgrimage of Freedom. Walking the Holy Land with Moses’; the idea of talking about the commandments, precisely from Mount Sinai, where Moses received them on the Tablets of the Law from God’s hand, excited us.”

Father Solana says that “Saint Jerome defined the Holy Land as the fifth Gospel. I find that a beautiful, clear, and descriptive definition. It is the Gospel that provides the context—the climate, the seasons, etc.—for the other four. Moreover, our Christian faith is a historical faith: it takes place in time and space. They are not human inventions. It is God’s passage through human history. And here, that is preserved, guarded, celebrated, and shared.”

It is worth mentioning that in the Virtual Pilgrimage of Grace: “Walking the Holy Land with the Church,” nearly 100,000 virtual pilgrims from 153 countries participated. Additionally, a significant support effort was carried out by the Magdala Support Center (www.conmagdala.org), in partnership with seven institutions, and many testimonies of healing and grace were collected from pilgrims and their families.
