Novena Cristo Rey

Come, Your Kingdom!
REGNUM CHRISTI
_______________

Rome, November 9, 2022

To the members of Regnum Christi

Dearly esteemed in Jesus Christ:
Each of us, as Christians and as members of Regnum Christi, are called to make an apostolic discernment of reality to live more fully our mission as apostles of the Kingdom. We are invited to open our eyes and contemplate, both within ourselves and around us, the signs of the Kingdom, which show Christ himself in person, already present and active. By discovering this treasure, we can better participate in the mission of making the Kingdom present in our daily lives, in the lives of others, and in society.

This year, the novena of preparation for the Solemnity of Christ the King, which we send with this letter, accompanies us step by step through several of the parables of the Kingdom. From the lens of the parables, we consider the different areas of evangelization mentioned in no. 11 of the Statutes, which form the basis for the preparation guides for the 2024 General Convention. In this way, the novena we offer aims to help us discover the heart of Jesus Christ so that we may be deeply penetrated by His love for humanity, desiring that He reign in our hearts, in the hearts of all men, and in society (cf. EFRC 13).
In the cycle of catechesis on discernment, recently begun, Pope Francis explains: “In the Gospel, Jesus speaks of discernment with images taken from ordinary life; for example, he describes the fisherman who selects the good fish and discards the bad; or the merchant who knows how to identify, among many pearls, the most valuable one. Or the one who, plowing a field, finds something that turns out to be a treasure (cf. Mt 13:44-48).”

This nine-day journey, united in prayer as a spiritual family, will conclude on Christ the King Day with a revealing Gospel in which Jesus himself is discovered by the discerning eye of the good thief, who was able at this moment, both painful and glorious, to discover his King who was opening the doors of His Kingdom. Thus, we are also called to find in Jesus the deepest meaning of life.

You can find on the international website and attached to this letter the novena proposal that begins this Friday, November 11. We invite you to pray and reflect on it in personal prayer, in teams, or community. Resources to facilitate sharing the novena on social networks are also available on the same website, should you wish.

We invite you to entrust ourselves to each other so that this solemnity of Christ the King helps us to always live, more fully, our call to make present the mystery of the Kingdom, Christ in person who comes to meet us, reveals the love of His heart, gathers us, forms us as apostles, sends us, and accompanies us to collaborate with Him in evangelizing men and society (EFRC 7 and 8).

In Christ,
