On December 9th, the Territorial School Board of Monterrey, composed of P. Paul Lara, LC, territorial director of the Legionaries of Christ, Carmen Ramírez, territorial director of the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi, and José Mateos, territorial director of the Laicos Consagrados; sent a communication to all members of the territory in which the change of name of the territory is established, transitioning from “Territorio de Monterrey” to “Territorio del Norte de México”.
This decision responds to various factors, including the fact that the current name “Monterrey” does not reflect the reality of the entire territory. It causes confusion among some members of Regnum Christi from other cities in the country who do not identify with this name. Initially, it was decided to name the territory after a city in the state of Nuevo León where the previous territorial leadership of the Legionaries of Christ was located, which is now situated in the municipality of San Pedro Garza García, in the same state of Nuevo León. Additionally, over these years, for those outside Regnum Christi, especially from other cities outside the state of Nuevo León, the name “Territorio de Monterrey” always required explanations and clarifications.
In the communication from the Territorial School Board, it is also mentioned that «we seek that all members of Regnum Christi in our territory feel more fully identified with this new name. Although the nomenclature is “Norte de México,” the territory also includes the Bajío and Western regions of Mexico, but these are not included in the title to avoid using such a lengthy name».
The change will take effect on January 1, 2021, and this modification has also been adopted by the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi, who will also change their names in these territories to align with the change.
