«He was a simple, sacrificial, and kind-hearted priest», comments Fr. Eugenio Martín Elío, LC when sharing the news of Fr. Arturo’s passing on social media.
Fr. Arturo was born in the town of La Moncana, Tarimoro, (Guanajuato-Mexico), on October 18, 1935, and was a member of the Legion of Christ from a young age. He entered the “Quinta Pacelli” vocational center in 1952, and later joined the novitiate in Rome in 1956. His perpetual profession was on January 5, 1962.
It was in the chapel of the “Quinta Pacelli” vocational center, where he began his formation, that he received his diaconal ordination on May 5, 1972, and subsequently, his priestly ordination.
A large part of his priestly ministry was carried out at the vocational center in Ontaneda, Spain. In 2001, he arrived at the then Prelature of Cancún-Chetumal, where he served as a parish priest, spiritual director, and confessor in various parishes.
Starting in October 2018, he was in one of the communities in Cancún, where he received all necessary care due to his health condition, until September 11, when he was called to the house of the Father at the age of 84.
I had the privilege of living for some years with this great, simple, and patient priest. He was a person who left a mark on my life with his good examples of charity and humility in silence. May God hold him in His arms (Rafael Nava, in the book of condolences).
