«It wasn’t easy to organize the ordination in these pandemic times, but God opened many doors»

«No fue fácil organizar la ordenación en estos tiempos de pandemia, pero Dios abrió muchas puertas»

On July 4th, Fr. László Erffa, LC, was ordained a priest by Mons. Nicolas Thevenin, Apostolic Nuncio in Egypt, a great friend of the family of the Father and his confirmation sponsor, who also conferred the diaconal ordination on him a year ago.

Fr. László shares with us that «it was not easy to organize the ordination during these pandemic times, but God opened many doors and in the end it was a very beautiful celebration. In the Basilica of Santa Ana in Altötting, only 200 people can fit with the required distancing, and it was not possible to have a concelebration, also due to health regulations. In this way, the ordination turned out to be very diverse because I was the only one being ordained and because I had known the bishop for 25 years, everything had a tone of great intimacy. Especially the homily, in which the bishop truly spoke heart to heart, switching from German to Spanish when he was moved.

It was a grace to be ordained in this place where the Most Holy Virgin has been venerated for over 500 years, and which is just a few minutes from our novitiate in Germany. On Tuesday morning, I was able to celebrate a Holy Mass in the sanctuary chapel. The people here have great appreciation for priests and pray a lot for vacations. Seeing the expectations they have for priests is a great motivation for me, and I hope to have many opportunities to offer them my neo-priestly blessing.

I was able to celebrate my Cantamisa in the parish church of Neuötting, which with its late Gothic style lifts the gaze to heaven and the heart to God. It made me think that the purpose of being a priest is to be a mediator and to lead people to God. Surely all this will take some time to process. A whole lifetime, I imagine. God does wonders and we have to keep our eyes open to see them, understand them, and thank Him».
