The P. David Boix, LC, was born on April 11, 1934, in Crevillente, Alicante province. He entered the Novitiate of the Legion of Christ for the first time in Rome in the summer of 1953. Months later, he was diagnosed with an intestinal occlusion and made his profession in articulo mortis. Shortly after, he had to leave the Congregation due to his delicate health.
He managed to recover, but by that time he had already lost contact with the Legion of Christ. He then entered the seminary of the Archdiocese of Barcelona and was ordained a priest on September 17, 1961. He was the pastor of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain.
In the 1980s, he heard about the Congregation again. Thanks to the father of the now P. Xavier Carné, LC, he reconnected with the Legion of Christ.
In 2008, he expressed his desire to return to being a Legionary of Christ, and in 2009, at the age of 75, he requested permission from Cardinal Archbishop of Barcelona, Luis Martínez Sistach, to become a religious again. The cardinal accepted his request. That same year, he entered the Novitiate, which at that time was located in Salamanca, Spain.
Upon arriving at the Novitiate, P. David Boix, LC, recounted: «The first thing I did was look at the “Christus Vita Vestra” and I was deeply moved. I entered the chapel and headed to the presbytery; very emotional, I knelt down and kissed the ground.» He then met some brothers and said to them: «I am P. David, but treat me as a brother; this is my wish; I come to learn.»
On September 12, 2010, he took his vows. On March 27, 2012, Card. Velasio de Paolis received the perpetual profession of P. David Boix, LC.
In 2014, P. David Boix, LC, was transferred to Rome to serve as confessor at the International College of the Congregation, where he passed away on the morning of February 14, 2020.
On Saturday, February 15, the funeral Mass was celebrated, presided over by P. Christopher Brackett, LC, who thanked everyone who had been attentive to P. David Boix, LC, during these years and in his final moments.
In his homily, P. Eduardo Robles-Gil, LC, highlighted P. David’s joy and asked, «How do we want to be remembered, as joyful men? There was a video playing in which the Father reminds us that what matters is to be saints; hopefully, we will be remembered for this.»
