The Fr. Gerardo Flores, L.C., general coordinator of Safe Environments, and Isabel Mónaco, the territorial coordinator, have conducted a course on “Regnum Christi’s Safe Environments Policy in Spain” for the novices in Madrid and their instructor, Fr. José Felix Medina, LC. Throughout eight sessions of the safe environments course, the phenomenon of sexual abuse, its consequences for victims, the profile of the abuser, statistics on the phenomenon, and victim testimonies were addressed.

Preventive measures and response procedures in case of reports were also discussed. Regarding the former, the novices studied the Code of Conduct of the Legionaries of Christ, in addition to the selection processes for candidates to religious life, employees, and volunteers in the works. They were also explained the response measures of the protocols when there is a breach of the code of conduct, reports of child pornography consumption or production (as this is considered a sexual abuse crime), and the sexual abuse reporting protocol.
