The Father P. Walter Bartnicki, L.C., was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, in the United States, on February 14, 1948, and is the eldest of 8 children. He was one of the first North Americans to join the Legion of Christ in his country. He began his Novitiate in Woodmont, Connecticut, and continued it in Dublin, Ireland, while collaborating in vocations promotion on the island and remaining there for two more years for this purpose. He studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical University of Santo Tomas. He was ordained a priest in Rome on Christmas Eve of 1975. In these 42 years of priesthood in the Legion of Christ, he has worked as director of the gentlemen’s section of Regnum Christi in Mexico City for one term, as superior of Legionary communities, territorial administrator from 1976 to 1983, assistant to the territorial director for the administrative area from 1984-1986, director of the Ceyca baccalaureate from 1986-1990, director of the ladies’ section of Regnum Christi in southern Mexico City from 1987-1990, rector of the novitiate and humanistic studies center of the Legion in Cheshire during the 1990-1991 school year, and spiritual advisor of the formation center for consecrated women in Rome and later in Monterrey from 1991 to 2013. He is currently one of the spiritual directors for the Monterrey territory.
