«Un canto a favor de la familia» - Entregan medalla JPII al mérito por la promoción de la vida y la familia

Recently, the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family Sciences, Mexican section, awarded Dr. Fernando Pliego Carrasco the medal of merit for the promotion of life and family.

Dr. Fernando Pliego has been a full-time researcher at the Institute of Social Research of UNAM since 1991, where he coordinates the International Observatory of Families and Family Policy.

The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr. Gaspar Guevara, LC, vice president of the Pontifical Institute, in thanksgiving for the life and work of Dr. Pliego, who attended accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Beatriz Avilés, and his family.

At the end of the celebration, the merit medal for the promotion of life and family was awarded. The presidium was composed of Dr. Alejandro Landero, national director of the Pontifical Institute, Fr. Gaspar Guevara, L.C., vice president of the Pontifical Institute, Ms. Olivia Núñez, director of the Mexico campus, and Dr. Pliego, who would receive the award.

During the ceremony, Dr. Landero spoke about the importance of granting such recognition to the Institute and society, as it seeks to acknowledge the value of life and those who fight for it amid a culture of discard, reminding us that every human life has intrinsic value, affirming that: “the medal is a song in favor of the family.”

This is the second year in which the Pontifical John Paul II Institute awards such a recognition.

After the medal was awarded, Dr. Pliego thanked his family and friends for their support throughout his research, and especially the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for being the cornerstone at the beginning of his investigations.

Also attending the event were Mario Alberto Romo, national director of Red Familia, Bernardo Urzúa from the Ethical and Political Action Network, and Claudia Romero, director of Humanízate A.C.
