Cardinal Suárez Inda ordains Deacon Fr. Ignacio León, LC
On Saturday, June 17th, Fr. Ignacio León, LC received the order of deaconship from Cardinal Alberto Suárez Inda at the parish “La Esperanza de María en la Resurrección del Señor,” in Parques del Pedregal (Mexico City). Fr. Ignacio León, LC is a graduate of the Instituto Cumbres and was a member of ECYD.
At exactly 12 noon, the ordination ceremony began. Friends, family, lay members of Regnum Christi, and consecrated men and women were present at the parish. Also present was a group of students from the vocational center – minor seminarians – wearing their distinctive navy blue or red sweaters. About 40 Legionary priests and diocesan priests conce
lebrated the Mass. Fr. Ricardo Sada, LC, territorial director of Mexico and Central America, presented Fr. Ignacio to the assembly.
In his homily, the Cardinal addressed the ordinand: “The Lord wants you to follow Him wherever He calls you. He calls you to be His messenger and for the beautiful mission of making Him present and serving your brothers. You will be called deacon like Jesus, the perfect deacon who came not to be served but to serve. How much need there is today in Mexico and in society for brothers deacons, for people willing to serve in love and charity!”
As a very special detail, Fr. Ignacio’s parents came forward to the altar to help vest their son with the dalmatic, the vestment specific to the diaconate.
Biographical data of the new deacon
Fr. Ignacio León, LC was born in Celaya, Guanajuato, on April 4, 1983. He was a student at Instituto Cumbres Lomas (elementary) and Cumbres México (middle and high school). He joined ECYD in 1st grade of secondary school and in 1st year of high school, he joined Regnum Christi. In 2003, he entered the novitiate in Cheshire, CT, USA, where he made his first religious profession. He studied a year of humanistic studies in Salamanca, Spain. He studied his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in philosophy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome. He worked for three years as a formator of humanists in Salamanca, Spain. On October 2, 2011, he took his perpetual vows in Rome. He completed his theology studies at the same Athenaeum. Currently, he collaborates as a training instructor at the Oxford Institute in Mexico City.
