In September, Father John Connor, LC, met with his council to establish the priorities that will guide his work as General Government. A projection that is intended to be presented to the members of the Congregation so that each one makes it their own during the next six years. The work is reflected in the document «Apostles According to the Heart of Christ» presented on the sixth anniversary of the approval of the current Constitutions of the Congregation, feast of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque.
The main foundation of these priorities comes from the values proposed by the 2020 General Chapter, which invited each member of the Legion of Christ to focus on strengthening their identity as a religious-priest legionary, in communion with their brothers in community and with the various realities of the Regnum Christi, and finally, to ignite their apostolic zeal to form apostles who experience the love of Christ and feel called to transmit this love that has conquered their hearts. In addition to these guidelines, the General Government added as a priority the pastoral care of abuse prevention and vocations work, both in initial discernment and in perseverance in the vocation.
In the area of identity as a religious-priest legionary, the document «Apostles According to the Heart of Christ» proposes, among other things, a «living of the religious sense, expressed in the faithful living of the vows, moved by the ideal of holiness and generous dedication to the mission. […] A renewal of the spirit of family. […] A deeper understanding of what it means to be part of the Regnum Christi […]».
The document emphasizes the value of communion in forming «fervent communities, animated by pastoral charity». A fervor that helps renew the spirit of family in legionary communities and be a ferment of the spirit of family and collaboration within the Regnum Christi, as well as nourish cooperation with the local church.
In the field of apostolic dedication, it takes as its main point «an active commitment to the life, apostolates, and structures of the Regnum Christi in spreading the charism and living the common mission (cf. CLC 4; EFRC 8)». Based on this, legionaries are invited to collaborate so that localities become authentic communities of apostles, fostering work with Christian leaders and seeking the most effective means for evangelization and the extension of the Kingdom of Christ.
In the area of pastoral care for the protection of minors and vulnerable adults, it is proposed, above all, that each legionary be modeled by the Heart of Christ Good Shepherd and integrate the various vicissitudes of institutional history. Transparent communication of the Standards for Safe Environments. Reinforce the commitment to victim care, supported by independent institutions. And the closure of cases still open.
In the vocational promotion, both in initial discernment and in perseverance, they want to ensure «that each legionary has adequate training in accompaniment and vocational discernment». In addition to implementing the strengthening of vocational pastoral care.
