The Regnum Christi Movement, in collaboration with the Holy See, is undergoing a process of review of its General Statutes with the aim of providing the entire Movement with an appropriate canonical form.
To this end, representatives of the different vocations that make up Regnum Christi – Legionaries of Christ, consecrated persons, consecrated laity, and laypeople – will meet in a General Assembly to be held in two sessions (April and November).
Prior to the General Assembly of Regnum Christi, the governing bodies of the Legionaries of Christ, the consecrated women, and the consecrated laity of Regnum Christi will meet in an extraordinary session, also in two parts.
From March 26 to April 7, 2018, the first part of the Extraordinary General Chapter of the Legionaries of Christ takes place in Rome at the headquarters of the general leadership. The second part will be held from November 19 to 24, 2018, at the same location.
The purposes of the Extraordinary General Chapter are:
a. To examine and evaluate the steps taken since the signing of the provisional Framework for collaboration in the mission and since the establishment of the General and Territorial Committees of Regnum Christi.
b. To examine the results of the Territorial Assemblies of the Legion of Christ, other branches, and the joint Assemblies, as well as the General Assembly of the consecrated laity.
c. To review the documentation related to the contact between the Legion of Christ and the CIVCSVA.
d. To confirm or reject the proposal of the General Committee regarding the canonical status of the Federation, after studying the possible configurations for Regnum Christi as a whole, and its relationship with the Legion of Christ. If the Federation’s proposal is confirmed, the Chapter will express its preferences regarding the general characteristics of the Federation to be presented for study in the first session of the common General Assembly.
e. To elect the delegates of the Legion of Christ who will participate as elected members in the General Assembly of Regnum Christi. A total of 37 Legionaries of Christ will participate in the General Assembly, 16 of whom will do so by virtue of their office.
f. To define the binding or facultative guidelines that the Extraordinary General Chapter wishes to give to these delegates for their participation in the General Assembly of Regnum Christi.
g. To review the Draft of the General Statutes of Regnum Christi and to make recommendations for the consideration of the General Assembly of Regnum Christi.
h. To define the modality of ratification of the General Statutes of Regnum Christi issued by the 2018 General Assembly of Regnum Christi, by the General Chapter of the Legion of Christ.
Sixty-three Legionaries of Christ participate in the Extraordinary General Chapter (45 of whom participate by election, and 18 by office).
A website has been made available to follow the General Chapter and the Assemblies, where general information, images, and daily summaries can be viewed.
Additionally, for those who wish to entrust the entire process of the Assemblies to prayer, a prayer campaign platform has been created where delegates can be adopted to pray for them.
