“Perpetual profession is not a final goal that has been reached, but rather a confirmation of a choice for Christ and the way of life He chose and lived with the apostles. It opens a great horizon in which poverty, chastity, and obedience can bear their fruits in the soul itself and in the life of the Church, in proportion to the grace of the Holy Spirit” (Ratio institutionis de la Legión de Cristo, Christus Vita Vestra, 847).

On August 20th, a group of Legionaries of Christ took their perpetual vows, and another group renewed their vows in the chapel of the Center for Higher Studies in Rome, during a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Father Jesús María Delgado, LC. Likewise, on August 27th, Brother Michael Sternhagen, LC, made his perpetual profession at the headquarters of the General Directorate.

Father Jesús María commented in his homily on the passage of the Canaanite woman, who was tested in her faith by Christ and responded generously. He invited those present to adopt the attitude of faith and humility of the Canaanite woman. He exhorted the professed to ask God insistently for the souls He has united to each of us through our consecration, and to live fully the vocation to spiritual fatherhood.

Pablo Torres, LC, commented: “Being able to offer my life to the Lord motivates me to live each day with greater dedication to my vocation and to the plan that God has prepared for me. This is concretized in the souls I interact with daily: my brothers in community, the employees, the people who help us, my family, acquaintances, friends, the people I work with in the parish, etc., because precisely for them I am giving my life to the Lord, so that they too may find, know, and fall in love with Him. There is a phrase by Fulton Sheen that touched my heart when I read it, and I have tried to put it into practice: “The priest is not his own,” that is, if I am going to be a priest, I will be for others, not for myself. My life is for others. “I have not come to be served…”».

At the conclusion of the Eucharistic celebration, a meal and fellowship were held with the parents of the professed brothers in the dining hall of the Center for Higher Studies.

Below, we present a brief biography of the brothers who made their perpetual profession

H. Felipe Quezada Sánchez, LC was born in 1990 in Mexico. He entered the Legion of Christ in 2006. He made his first religious profession at the novitiate in Salamanca in 2008 and studied two years of humanities. From 2010 to 2012, he studied a bachelor’s in philosophy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum. During his apostolic practices, he was an assistant to novices and discipline prefect at the Vocational Center in Gozzano, Italy. In 2015, he returned to Rome to begin his licentiate in philosophy, which he obtained in June 2017. He will soon begin his first year of theology studies.

H. Francisco Javier Cerrilla Salazar, LC was born in 1980 in Mexico City. He graduated from the Irish Institute of Mexico City. He studied economics from 2000 to 2004 at the Anahuac University Mexico, Campus Norte, and at the Francisco de Vitoria University in Madrid, Spain. He worked in the banking-business sector for two years. He joined Regnum Christi in March 2005. He was a collaborator in 2006 in Monterrey, starting at the Valia Center. He entered the novitiate in Monterrey on September 15, 2007, made his first religious profession on August 23, 2009, and moved to Cheshire to complete a year of humanities. In 2010, he moved to Rome to start his bachelor’s in philosophy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, where he also collaborated with the general administration and was an assistant to philosophers at the headquarters of the general direction. In 2012, he began his apostolic practices in Monterrey as a novice assistant for a year and then as an assistant to humanists in Cheshire for two years. In 2015, he returned to Rome to start his bachelor’s in theology and collaborate with the general administration.

H. Wolfgang Dichgans, LC was born in 1988 in Germany. He entered the Legion of Christ in 2008 at the novitiate in Germany. He studied a year of humanities in Salamanca and the bachelor’s in philosophy in Thornwood and at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome. During his apostolic practices, from 2013 to 2016, he collaborated as an assistant to the male ECYD in Düsseldorf and as a training instructor at Oak Dublin. In 2016, he returned to Rome to begin his bachelor’s in theology. He is currently about to start his second year of theology.

H. Seth Sabata, LC was born in 1987 in the United States. He entered the Legion of Christ in 2007 at the novitiate in Cheshire, where he studied a year of humanities after completing the novitiate. From 2010 to 2012, he studied a bachelor’s in philosophy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum. During his apostolic practices, he was an assistant to humanists and novices in Salamanca. In 2015, he returned to Rome to study his licentiate in philosophy, which he obtained in June 2017. The upcoming school year, he will begin his first year of theology.

H. Xavier Gutiérrez, LC was born in 1988 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He entered the Legion of Christ in 2006 in Monterrey. He studied two years of humanities in Salamanca and the bachelor’s and licentiate in philosophy at the Himalaya School of Monterrey. During apostolic practices, from 2012 to 2015, he collaborated as a training instructor at the Himalaya School of Monterrey. This school year, he will begin his bachelor’s in theology.

H. Juan Pablo Castañeda Ramírez Zacarías, LC was born in 1990 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He entered the Vocational Center of Guadalajara in 2002 and the novitiate in Monterrey in 2006. Later, he moved to the Salamanca novitiate. He made his first religious profession on September 7, 2008. After two years of humanistic studies, he began his bachelor’s in philosophy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome. From 2012 to 2015, he carried out his apostolic practices as discipline prefect at the Vocational Center in León, Mexico. In 2015, he returned to Rome to continue his philosophy studies, and in 2017, he obtained his licentiate in philosophy from the same Athenaeum. In October, he will begin his bachelor’s in theology.

H. Nathan Wayne, LC was born in 1988 in Syracuse, New York. He was a member of ECYD and later, in 2005, joined Regnum Christi and was part of the youth section in Syracuse. He entered the novitiate in Cheshire on September 15, 2007. He made his first religious profession on August 29, 2009. From 2009 to 2010, he studied humanities in Cheshire, and in 2010, he started his bachelor’s in philosophy at Thornwood, where he also collaborated as an assistant. In 2012, he began his apostolic practices as a vocations promoter in Canada. In 2015, he returned to Rome to start his bachelor’s in theology.

H. Dain Scherber, LC was born in 1989 in Minnesota, United States. He was a member of ECYD before entering the Vocational Center in New Hampshire in 2003. He entered the novitiate in Ireland in 2007. He studied two years of humanities in Cheshire and then collaborated as an assistant there for four years. He is currently completing his bachelor’s studies in philosophy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum.

H. Pablo Torres, LC was born in 1989 in Xalapa, Veracruz. He entered the Vocational Center of Ajusco in the summer of 2002. He made his novitiate in Monterrey and there, he also made his first temporary vows in August 2008. He studied two years of humanities in Salamanca and the bachelor’s in philosophy at Thornwood. During his apostolic practices, he worked as a trainer at the Vocational Center in León. In June 2017, he obtained his licentiate in philosophy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum.

H. Samuel David Tan, LC was born in 1988 in Waukegan, Illinois, United States. He entered the novitiate in Cheshire on September 15, 2006, and made his first religious profession on August 30, 2008. From 2008 to 2009, he studied humanities in Cheshire, and in 2009, he started his bachelor’s in philosophy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum. In 2011, he began his apostolic practices as an assistant in vocations promotion in Colombia and Venezuela. In 2015, he returned to Rome to start his bachelor’s in theology.

H. Jaime Francisco Lorenzo, LC was born in 1987 in Manila, Philippines. He was a member of Regnum Christi in the youth section of Washington, D.C., United States, since 2005. He entered the novitiate in Cheshire on September 15, 2006. Two years later, he made his first religious profession on August 30, 2008, in Cheshire. From 2008 to 2010, he studied humanities in Cheshire, and in 2010, he began his bachelor’s in philosophy in Thornwood. In 2011, he worked for a year as an auxiliary to the North America territorial secretary. In 2012, he continued his philosophy studies, completing his bachelor’s in philosophy in Rome in 2013. From 2013 to 2016, he carried out his apostolic practices as a member of the auxiliary team of ECYD in Caracas and as an instructor of primary formation at the Cumbres de Caracas Institute. In 2016, he returned to Rome to begin his bachelor’s in theology.

H. Jared Loehr, LC was born on June 8, 1985, in the United States. He entered the Legion of Christ in the novitiate of Cheshire in 2007. He studied a year of humanities in Cheshire and the bachelor’s in philosophy in Thornwood. During his apostolic practices, from 2012 to 2015, he collaborated as an instructor of Northwoods School training and in the male ECYD in Houston. In 2015, he returned to Rome to start his bachelor’s in theology. In October, he will begin his third year of theology.

H. José Muñoz, LC was born in 1988 in Aguascalientes, Mexico. He is a graduate of Cumbres de Aguascalientes. He was a member of NET, ECYD, and the youth section of Regnum Christi. He entered the novitiate in Monterrey on September 15, 2007, and made his first religious profession on August 23, 2009. From 2009 to 2010, he studied humanities in Monterrey, and in 2010, he began his bachelor’s in philosophy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum. From 2012 to 2015, he carried out his apostolic practices in São Paulo, Brazil; the first two years as an assistant to novices, and the third as an auxiliary to the territorial secretary. In 2015, he returned to Rome to start his bachelor’s in theology.

H. Eduardo González Salas, LC was born in 1987 in Durango, Mexico. Before joining the Legion, he was part of a Lasallian missionary group in which he participated for three years. In 2005, after finishing high school, he began studies in computer systems engineering, and a year later, he decided to join the candidate program. On September 15, 2006, he received the Legionary habit and began his novitiate in Monterrey. In August 2008, he made his first vows. He studied the humanistic studies in Cheshire and the bachelor’s in philosophy in Thornwood, NY. From 2012 to 2015, he completed his apostolic practices in Mexico City as a trainer at the Vocational Center in León. From 2015 to 2017, he studied the licentiate in philosophy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum and will begin his bachelor’s in theology.

H. Jhonatan Rodrigues Carmona, LC was born in 1989 in Venezuela. He entered the Legion of Christ novitiate in Monterrey in 2006. He studied a year of humanities in Salamanca and the bachelor’s in philosophy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum. During his apostolic practices, he collaborated as discipline prefect at the Vocational Center La Joya, as a training instructor at the Cumbres Institute of Mérida, and in the male ECYD in Mérida. In 2015, he returned to Rome to continue his philosophy studies, obtaining his licentiate in June 2017.
