Visit of the Director General to the Territory of Spain: strengthening the Legionary charism with hope and renewed Easter impetus

Published on 10 June, 2026
Legionaries, News, Spain

From May 29 to June 3, Father Carlos Gutiérrez, L.C., general director of the Legionaries of Christ, made a visit to the Territory of Spain. There he had the opportunity to schedule meetings with legionaries, consecrated women, novices and collaborators.

Marked by an atmosphere of closeness and dialogue, the visit provided an opportunity to discuss several aspects related to the new general government, as well as to reiterate a message that Father Carlos has sought to convey since his election as superior general: the renewal and hopeful outlook with which the Legion must face this new stage in its history. For this reason, during his visit and in the various activities and meetings, he encouraged the members of the territory to live the present with confidence, striving to safeguard, strengthen, deepen, and radiate the charism of the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi in service to people and the Church.

During his stay, Father Carlos participated in the oath of fidelity of Father Eduardo Robles Gil, L.C., who assumed the role of the new territorial director for Spain. Shortly afterward, he celebrated Mass at Cerro del Coto with the Legionaries who were there on their annual retreat.

On Sunday the 31st, Father Carlos accompanied the presentation of the habit to Brother Marius Will and presided over the Eucharistic celebration. Afterwards, he participated in a question-and-answer session with the legionaries of Spain, where they discussed the challenges and opportunities that the congregation has and the beginning of the new general government for the period 2026 – 2032.

On Monday, June 1, he celebrated Holy Mass with the Consecrated Sisters of Regnum Christi in Madrid and had several activities such as meetings, meetings and personal encounters. The visit continued on Wednesday, June 3, where he presided over the mass for the staff of the Francisco de Vitoria University, later sharing breakfast with Daniel Sada, rector of the institution, academic leaders and legionaries who carry out their pastoral work at that institution. UFV is part of the International Network of Regnum Christi Universities.

In the afternoon of that day he visited the European Novitiate of Reajo del Roble, having moments of dialogue and meeting with the novices and those in charge of the Novitiate, where he emphasized that the vocation and formation must be lived with joy.

Father Carlos’s visit leaves a message of trust, hope, and communion in the Spanish Territory. At the beginning of his term, the Congregation reaffirms its commitment to looking to the future, strengthening its identity, and renewing its missionary zeal from a Christ-centered and Paschal perspective.
