Ecclesia: A Catholic Cultural Journal

Published on 19 August, 2025
Legionaries, News

Ecclesia, the Catholic cultural journal (from the Greek ekklesia, meaning “assembly” or “convocation”), is part of the evangelizing mission of the Congregation of the Legionaries of Christ. Founded in 1987, since 2001 it has been published with the support of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum.

The magazine was established at a time when the Athenaeum was beginning to consolidate its position as a leading university center in Rome (1987). Since its inception—and within a cultural context marked by value pluralism and significant ideological distortion—Ecclesia has sought to offer reflections inspired by Christianity, while remaining open to dialogue with the contemporary world.

Thanks to its academic rigor and intellectual depth, Ecclesia is indexed in specialized databases such as the Catholic Periodical and Literature Index. This ensures that its readers—university professors, theology students, seminarians, and laypeople interested in the relationship between faith and culture—receive content that is thematically rich, coherent, and grounded in truth.

New Issue of Ecclesia Now Available

The opening article, written by the magazine’s general editor, Fr. Fernando Pascual, LC, is titled “A Farewell and a Welcome”. It reflects on a pivotal moment in the life of the Church this year: the passing of Pope Francis and the election of his successor, Pope Leo XIV.

Other notable contributions in this issue include “Theological Foundations of the Jubilee” by Mauro Gagliardi and “Love in Religious Life” by Ignacio Andereggen. Also featured are a presentation of the new book Jubilee and Consecrated Life by Germán Sánchez Griese, and the essay “A Time to Merit and a Time to Rejoice: Time and Eternity in St. Thomas Aquinas” by Fr. Rafael Pascual, LC. The issue concludes with reviews of recent books and Church documents.
