Fire destroys Legionaries’ apostolate house in Atlanta

Published on 19 February, 2025
Legionaries, News, USA

On February 16th, in the early hours, a lightning strike hit the home of Legionary parents on Woodsong Trail, in Cumming, on the outskirts of Atlanta. The house was completely engulfed in flames and burned down, leaving it entirely destroyed. In statements to CNA – the English-language media agency of EWTN – Father Scott Reilly, L.C., indicated that the fire spread due to the wind, consuming the house rapidly.

Despite the strength of the flames, and thanks to God, and to the neighbors of the house, who immediately came to the aid of the parents and missionaries, none of the people living there were injured.

Amidst the difficulties, the priests were able to secure the Most Holy Sacrament to ensure it was not damaged by the fire, a testament to the Legionary love for Jesus, the most important resident of each of the homes and centers where they live and work.

We thank you all for your expressions of support and closeness during this time. The mission now continues: to carry on with the apostolic and pastoral work, while the foundations and structures are rebuilt, always with faith in Christ as support and guide.

You can find more information about the pastoral work of the Legionaries of Christ in the Atlanta area here. Additionally, a GoFundMe has been organized to help with the needs and expenses they face.
