An itinerary that enables pilgrimage through beautiful landscapes to promote the new evangelization around the Guadalupan theme, with the Eucharist and works of mercy at its center.

Around the highest point in Mexico, the Pico de Orizaba, the “Path of Guadalupe” is one of the initiatives born within the framework of the fifth centenary of the Virgin Mary’s apparitions to Saint Juan Diego.

Analogous to the Spanish “Camino de Santiago,” it is an itinerary that enables pilgrimage through beautiful landscapes to promote the new evangelization around the Guadalupan theme, with the Eucharist and works of mercy at its center.

With the recent blessing of three new images of the Virgin on the slopes of the volcano, the “Path of Guadalupe” already has 12 “Plazas de Guadalupe” in record time and reaches halfway through its route: 50 kilometers. Each of the plazas features monumental images of Our Lady of Guadalupe crafted by talented Mexican artists, as can be seen in this video:

“On the Path of Guadalupe, prayer and action go hand in hand,” tells us Father Evaristo Sada, LC, the project promoter. That is why, among the corporal works of mercy benefiting the farmers of the volcano that the Legionaries of Christ have carried out while walking with the parish priests and local communities, are the construction of 25 houses (another 40 are about to begin), 57 kilometers of piping for drinking water, and the corresponding collection centers for 9 communities and various productive projects (200 foliage gardens, 25,000 fruit trees, 80 greenhouses for flower cultivation, 85 chicken coops, etc.).

And why the Pico de Orizaba? Father Evaristo reminds us that “being the highest peak in Mexico, it symbolizes the highest destination one can aspire to: heaven.” That is why “Pilgrimage along the ‘Path of Guadalupe’ is walking with determination into the arms of the Father, holding the hand of the Virgin Mary, and inspired by the farmers of the volcano: authentic Juan Diegos of our times. Mexicans are convinced that Our Lady of Guadalupe is the most certain manifestation of God’s loving presence in Mexico.”

Due to the great beauty of the landscapes, sculptures, and plazas, some already call it the “Path of Beauty.” Nature lovers, hikers, mountain biking adventurers, and photography and painting enthusiasts find their environment here. While you pilgrimage, you contemplate the beauty of the Veracruz mountain range: foggy forests, rivers, waterfalls, flower-filled fields, flocks of sheep and goats, and above all, hospitable villages.

Father Evaristo Sada, LC, promoter of the “Path of Guadalupe,” explains that it is “a path of prayer, inspired by beauty, of service, challenged by poverty, of conversion, attracted by heaven, and driven by Mexico’s development”.
