The April 1st announced the names of the delegates for the first Ordinary General Convention of Regnum Christi, which will take place in Rome from April 29 to May 4. This event will bring together representatives from all vocations that form this spiritual family and apostolic body.
The General Convention aims to discern together God’s will for Regnum Christi over the next six years, based on the reality of the world to which we are sent and the charism we have received.
To prepare for this gathering, a path of apostolic discernment has been proposed, involving as many members of Regnum Christi as possible through the Encounter with Christ, which is one of the ordinary means to read reality with an apostolic perspective of the Kingdom.
When speaking of an apostolic discernment path, three very important elements are highlighted:
Path: walking together is discovered as a value in itself. While the fruits gathered at the end of the process are of great importance, we see that the process itself is already a fruit. In walking, we have listened to God’s call to make His Kingdom present and have matured our responses together. Walking means putting ourselves in motion; it means recognizing a starting point and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide the route and the various stops, and to point us toward a horizon to which we should head.
Of discernment: discerning is a demanding exercise. It involves reading the reality in which we live and to which we are sent. It involves deep listening to God’s voice in events, in the people we contact, those participating in this process, and in our own hearts. Discerning involves gathering objective information from reality and allowing it to illuminate our minds and move our hearts. It means seeing, judging, and acting in our environment, from the gift of the charism we have received.
Apostolic: we want to live with a renewed awareness that it is Jesus Christ who sends us and that our mission to make His Kingdom present is participation in His very mission. We want to rekindle our desire and commitment to reach out to people, reveal to them the love of Christ’s heart, gather around Him, form Christian leader apostles, and accompany them in their own sending in today’s world.
This path has been based on three key elements: walking together, discerning, and being apostles. Walking together means putting ourselves in motion, listening to God’s call to make His Kingdom present, and maturing responses together. Discerning means reading reality, listening to God’s voice in events, in people, and in our own hearts, and seeing, judging, and acting from the gift of the charism. Being an apostle means living with a renewed awareness that it is Jesus Christ who sends us and that our mission to make His Kingdom present is participation in His very mission.
The questions guiding the General Convention on this apostolic discernment path are:
- How do we see the world to which God sends us today, and where do we stand in it?
- What is God calling us to in the next 6 years?
- How can we respond as a spiritual family and apostolic body?
The General Convention will be a space for mutual listening and for the Holy Spirit, for walking together and each according to their vocation, and for unfolding the charism and concrete living of our mission in today’s world.
The General Governing Board shared in their letter of January 29, 2024, the following list of participants for the General Convention, and has invited all members of Regnum Christi to join in prayer so that this time becomes an opportunity to look together at the world and, from the Heart of Christ and our own charism, to give a renewed boost to the mission we share as apostles of the Kingdom.
