On September 15, the entire Regnum Christi family was able to obtain the plenary indulgence under the usual conditions, according to the mandate of the Supreme Pontiff.
To the entire Regnum Christi family, and in its different vocations, has been granted by mandate of the Supreme Pontiff the plenary indulgence that can be obtained on the day we celebrate Our Lady of Sorrows, Friday September 15, 2023.
What is a plenary indulgence?
“An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the Christian faithful who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Church which, as the minister of redemption, dispenses and applies with authority the treasury of the satisfactions of Christ and the saints.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 1471).
Indulgences can be partial or plenary. A plenary indulgence is a special grace granted by the Holy Father to Catholics around the world in particular situations and under specific conditions. It is called a plenary indulgence because it completely removes the penalty that must be paid for sins committed and confessed up to that moment.
An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment for sins, already forgiven as to guilt, which a faithful person who is disposed and fulfilling certain conditions obtains through the mediation of the Church (Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 1471).
The indulgence can be obtained on the day we celebrate Our Lady of Sorrows, on September 15, 2023.
Why is a plenary indulgence so important for us Catholics?
By the desire to attain grace, the plenary indulgence causes charity to be kindled, the spirit of prayer to be consolidated, the hierarchical and pious bond with the Vicar of Christ to be consequently strengthened and, therefore, apostolic zeal to be increased and translated into works to cooperate in the coming of the Kingdom of Christ throughout the world in its fullness.
What are the conditions to obtain a plenary indulgence?
Plenary indulgences are granted to members of Regnum Christi under the usual conditions specified by the Church (having the interior disposition of total detachment from sin, sacramental confession within 20 days before or 20 days after, reception of the Eucharist and prayer, and praying for the Pope’s intentions:
1 – On that day they commit themselves, at least privately, to faithfully observe the Statutes. This would be the day of association for the laity or the day of entry for the consecrated into the Congregation of the Legionaries of Christ, or into the Societies of Apostolic Life of the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi or of the Lay Consecrated of Regnum Christi.
2 – When they renew these same promises after performing the annual Spiritual Exercises.
3 – When they devoutly participate in the sacred rites of the Solemnities of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, and of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and in the liturgical commemoration of the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In addition, they must devoutly recite the Profession of Faith and the Our Father before the Blessed Sacrament or before the image of Our Lady of Sorrows.

Holy Father,
John Connor, LC, President of the General Directive College of the “Regnum Christi” Federation, presents and humbly offers to Your Holiness, in his own name and that of his religious brothers, as well as in the name of the members of said Federation, his warm sentiments of devotion. He requests that to deepen the piety of the members of said institute, Your Holiness deign to generously grant them the gift of a Plenary Indulgence through the Apostolic Authority of binding and loosing.
Because, through the observance of the prescribed conditions for obtaining the Plenary Indulgence, charity is intensified and the spirit of prayer is strengthened; the hierarchical and pious bond with the Vicar of Christ is reinforced by its merit; and thus apostolic zeal for the full coming of the Kingdom of Christ everywhere may be inflamed and bear fruit in action.
On January 4, 2023,
the Apostolic Penitentiary, by mandate of the Supreme Pontiff, kindly grants to the aforementioned members to obtain a Plenary Indulgence, which they may choose to apply to the souls of the faithful in Purgatory, provided that the usual conditions are met (Sacramental Confession, Eucharistic Communion, and prayer for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff) including the interior disposition of total detachment from sin:
When on the day of their enrollment they commit themselves, at least privately, to faithfully observe their own Statutes.
