Renewal for 5 years to Legionary of Christ at the Pontifical Academy for Life

Published on 8 February, 2023
News

Father Alberto Carrara, LC, was confirmed as a corresponding member for a new five-year term. With this, there are 3 legionaries who are part of pontifical academies.

The Father Carrara, LC, who is a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, was confirmed as a corresponding member of the Pontifical Academy for Life (PAV) for a new five-year period (2023-2028). The first time Fr. Carrara was elected as a member of the PAV was in 2017.

According to the new statutes approved on October 18, 2016, by Pope Francis, a corresponding member (also known as an honorary member) is appointed for a period of five years, based on their expertise and professional experience, and their proven commitment to the promotion and protection of human life. A corresponding member is an intellectual selected among distinguished experts in fields related to human life (medicine, biological sciences, theology, philosophy, anthropology, law, sociology, etc.). In the case of Fr. Carrara, he was especially chosen for his experience in the field of neuroethics and the anthropological perspectives in philosophy of mind and philosophy of neuroscience.

In addition to Fr. Carrara, currently two legionaries are members of Pontifical Academies that, by their very nature, depend on the Holy See, namely: Fr. Florián Rodero, LC, in the Pontifical International Marian Academy; and Fr. Pedro Barrajón, LC, in the Pontifical Academy of Theology.
