Following the example of Patriarch Saint Joseph is a teaching on how parents should care for their family and educate their children, recommended the director of the newspaper Sagrada Familia, Father Héctor Galván Trejo, LC, at the Cural House of the Universidad Anáhuac Cancún.
He emphasized the importance of deepening the knowledge of this great man (St. Joseph) and following his teachings through reading documents, letters, encyclicals, and the Pope’s homilies.
For Father Héctor, it is very important to study Church doctrine since Vatican II, to understand its message and grasp the synodal expression, without distorting it with “strange ideas” that are not Catholic, thus he reiterated the importance of knowing the documents of the Second Vatican Council regarding Social Doctrine.
Father Héctor Galván Trejo was born on Our Lady of Perpetual Help day, June 27, 1938, in Querétaro, Qro., the eldest of five sisters, and the only son of the marriage formed by Mr. Francisco Galván and Mrs. Isabel Trejo.
Vocation, ordination, and pastoral work
During his childhood, Querétaro had an average of 60 or 70 thousand inhabitants attending its 14 churches, a major seminary, and a minor one, always full due to the tradition enjoyed among its population. Without a specific calling, circumstances arose when he was an altar boy; at age 12, he received an invitation from the Legion of Christ to prepare and train at the minor seminary. Without any objection, he received his family’s consent.
He completed his basic education in Spain, the Novitiate in Rome, and his studies of Philosophy and Theology at the Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on December 24, 1968, in Rome.
15 years of shaping, informing, and transforming Quintana Roo
His pastoral work in the Legion of Christ can be summarized as being a director of schools, apostolic groups, and being sent in different years to Quintana Roo to support the priests of the then Prelature during summer and winter. In 2005, he settled in the region and served as vicar in the parishes of Cristo Rey, Cristo Resucitado; for eight years at Madre del Santísimo Sacramento in region 510; at the Cathedral of Cancún, Virgen de San Juan.
In 2007, he responsibly accepted the mission given by Monsignor Pedro Pablo Elizondo Cárdenas to continue the Sagrada Familia newspaper, a project initiated by Father José Eduardo Pérez, LC, and a group of committed laypeople, at the Sagrada Familia Parish in Cancún.
Participation, humility, and service
He is dedicated to forming future spouses for the Sacrament of Marriage; evangelizing, attending to, and increasing participation to raise awareness in liturgy, preparing catechesis groups, and administering sacraments. He appreciates the participation, humility, and service provided by parish communities.
As a school director, he attended to families in line with school activities; prepared students for the sacraments, celebrated Masses; promoted frequent confession—an activity that constantly concerned him. He initiated Regnum Christi through contact with available, close, and interested families to educate their children, mainly in Veracruz, Mexico, Chile, and Venezuela; something that impacted his priestly ministry, concluded the director of Sagrada Familia newspaper, Father Héctor Galván Trejo, LC.
