Alfa and Omega<\/a>, the magazine of the\u00a0Archdiocese of Madrid, published every Thursday and distributed with the newspaper ABC, has published a special report<\/a> on the Church’s work against the abuse crisis two years after the Anti-Abuse Summit at the Holy See.<\/p>\n

A part of the special offers a quick overview of the steps that religious congregations are taking. Specifically, it presents the work being carried out by the Jesuits, the Claretians, the Salesians, and the Legionaries of Christ. It also addresses the response from the dioceses and the assessment after one year of the implementation of the \u201cRepara<\/a>\u201d project, of the Madrid diocese.<\/p>\n

Regarding the Legionaries of Christ, the news refers to the Report 1941-2019 of the Legionaries of Christ on the phenomenon of sexual abuse of minors from its foundation to the present<\/a><\/em> and to the documents from the 2020 General Chapter \u201cConversion and Reparation\u201d and \u201cProtect and Heal,\u201d which include \u201creflections, decisions, and commitments\u201d when addressing abuses that their members may commit and the care for victims.<\/p>\n

The steps taken by the Legionaries of Christ have allowed \u201cprogress to be made in addressing each case personally, and especially each possible path to reconciliation with the victims.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Isabel also comments: \u201cThe aforementioned report helped to ensure that the issue of abuse ceased to be \u2018a ghost\u2019 and became \u2018the concrete story of specific people who had suffered this horror or committed it throughout the congregation\u2019s history.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
