{"id":9709,"date":"2020-11-19T07:40:17","date_gmt":"2020-11-19T13:40:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/legionariosdecristo.org\/?p=9709"},"modified":"2025-08-12T19:51:42","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T19:51:42","slug":"prayer-victims-sexual-abuses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/subdir.legionariosdecristo.org\/en\/blog\/2020\/11\/prayer-victims-sexual-abuses\/","title":{"rendered":"The Legion of Christ joins the Day of Prayer for Victims of Sexual Abuse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Pope\u00a0Francisco\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.protectionofminors.va\/content\/tuteladeiminori\/es\/sezione-le_risorse\/pagina-giornata_di_preghiera.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">urged in 2016<\/a> the episcopal conferences to choose \u201can appropriate day to pray for victims and survivors of sexual abuse as part of the Universal Day of Prayer initiative.\u201d Some episcopal conferences decided to promote the celebration of this day on the eve of the <strong>International Day of the Rights of the Child, which is November 20<\/strong>. The\u00a0Legionaries of Christ\u00a0have committed to fostering spiritual attitudes and initiatives of prayer, penance, and reparation for abuses committed by members of the Congregation and within the Church, as outlined in the document\u00a0<em>Conversion and Reparation<\/em> (cf. n. 11) issued from the 2020 General Chapter.<\/p>\n<p>Father John Connor, LC, general director of the Legion of Christ, <strong>called for a day of prayer on November 19 for all victims<\/strong>, especially during the Eucharistic celebration and the Eucharistic Hour of the day, and have prepared some resources including <a href=\"https:\/\/regnumchristi.es\/jornada-oracion-por-victimas-de-abuso-sexual-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a booklet dedicated to this day<\/a>. It contains the list of <strong>steps taken by the Church<\/strong> to confront the phenomenon of sexual abuse against minors and vulnerable adults, the <strong>testimony of a victim<\/strong> and survivor of abuse, and <strong>two prayers<\/strong> specially prepared for this Day of Prayer for Victims, by the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Testimony of has been revealed in the tenderness of your Son Jesus Christ, who told his disciples: \u201cLet the children come to me,\u201d we ask that your Church be a \u201cSafe Home\u201d where the encounter of all children and vulnerable adults with your Beloved Son is fostered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">May all those who have been physically, emotionally, and sexually abused by your ministers be respected and accompanied through concrete acts of justice and reparation so that they may feel healed with the balm of your compassion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">We ask this through
