It includes the final Communiqu\u00e9 titled &#8220;You Will Be My Witnesses,&#8221; as well as speeches, homilies, conferences, messages produced during this month and a half, along with guidelines and mandates for the upcoming government. It also includes the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ceroabusos.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/02\/conversion-reparacion-proteger-sanar-informe-abusos-legionarios.pdf\">documents<\/a> reflecting the reflections, decisions, and commitments regarding past abuses of minors by members of the Congregation, attention to victims, and strengthening of its Safe Environments Policy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You Will Be My Witnesses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou Will Be My Witnesses\u201d contains reflections, canonical law texts, and ecclesial references that illuminate the identity and mission of the Legionaries of Christ, vocations promotion, community life, and some aspects of the relationship with other vocations within the Regnum Christi. It emphasizes authenticity, communion, and apostolic dedication as fundamental attitudes for the coming years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Chapter also reviewed the normative framework issued by the general government over the past six years, especially the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.regnumchristi.org\/sites\/dg\/promulgacion-de-la-ratio-institutionis\/\"><em>Ratio institutionis<\/em><\/a> and the <em>Ratio studiorum<\/em>, and addressed the allocation of works and material assets in accordance with the General Assemblies of the other two consecrated vocations within the Regnum Christi.<\/p>\n<p>The previous six-year Governance Report highlighted, regarding the economy, the reduction of debt and compliance with audit requirements and fiscal, tax, and labor obligations in the countries where the Congregation is established. It also valued the achievement of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regnumchristi.org\/es\/la-santa-sede-constituye-la-federacion-regnum-christi-y-aprueba-sus-estatutos\/\">canonical configuration<\/a> of the entire Regnum Christi, a task carried out under the guidance of the Pontifical Delegate Gianfranco Ghirlanda, S.J.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New General Government<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On February 6, 7, and 8, the General Chapter proceeded with votes to elect the new director general of the Congregation and his Council. The American <a href=\"https:\/\/subdir.legionariosdecristo.org\/p-john-connor-lc-biografia\/\">P. John Connor, LC<\/a> was elected as the new director general. He will share the responsibility with the rest of the government to implement the mandates and directives of the current Chapter, which is the highest governing body of the Congregation and binds all Legionaries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cultural Change: Commitment to Justice, Truth, and Victims of Sexual Abuse, Power, and Conscience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Chapter also published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ceroabusos.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/02\/conversion-reparacion-proteger-sanar-informe-abusos-legionarios.pdf\">Conversion and Repair<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ceroabusos.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/02\/conversion-reparacion-proteger-sanar-informe-abusos-legionarios.pdf\">Protect and Heal<\/a>, products of its reflections, decisions, and commitments regarding <a href=\"https:\/\/subdir.legionariosdecristo.org\/p-john-connor-lc-afrontar-con-determinacion-nuestra-historia-y-ayudar-a-sanar-a-las-victimas-es-parte-de-nuestra-mision\/\">sexual abuses<\/a> of minors by members of the Congregation. They publicly apologize to the victims, especially those of the founder, thank the good they have done to the Legionaries of Christ and the Catholic Church with their courage, and undertake concrete commitments such as investigating responsibilities, presenting cases to civil and ecclesiastical justice, and publishing names according to a public communication and transparency policy committed to a zero-abuse culture so that no more minors become victims.<\/p>\n<p>In \u201cYou Will Be My Witnesses,\u201d the capitular fathers also instructed the new Government to \u201canalyze the issue of abuses of power and conscience in the exercise of authority and in apostolic activity,\u201d and to establish &#8220;measures for the training, prevention, and healing of affected persons\u201d by these issues.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pope Francis: A stage in a path that must continue<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Chapter is held for the first time since the constitution of the Regnum Christi Federation and simultaneously with the General Assemblies of the Consecrated Women and Men of the Regnum Christi. The Pope had granted an audience to all participants, which he could not attend after canceling many commitments in his public schedule due to health reasons.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regnumchristi.org\/es\/papa-francisco-mensaje-al-regnum-christi-maciel-legionarios-de-cristo-carisma\/\">Pope Francis\u2019s message<\/a> was published by the Holy See, and the Holy Father recalled that the founder\u2019s criminal life \u201ccontaminated to some extent the charism that the Spirit originally had given to the Church,\u201d which was reflected in the norms, governance praxis, and lifestyle \u201cof the entire Regnum Christi.\u201d He also recognizes that, hand in hand with the Church, the Regnum Christi has traveled a path that has meant a true \u201cchange of mentality,\u201d reflected in the new Constitutions and Statutes, which are \u201ctruly new,\u201d says the Pope, \u201cbecause they reflect a new spirit\u201d and a \u201ccoherent\u201d vision \u201cwith the Second Vatican Council.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Pope Francis emphasized that the renewal \u201chas not finished\u201d because \u201cthe change of mentality in individuals and in an institution takes a long time to assimilate,\u201d thus requiring a \u201ccontinuous conversion.\u201d<\/p>\n[gdlr_button href=&#8221;https:\/\/subdir.legionariosdecristo.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/NdP-Concluye-el-Capitulo-General-Legionarios-2020.pdf&#8221; target=&#8221;_blank&#8221; size=&#8221;medium&#8221; background=&#8221;#000000&#8243; color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221;]Press Release in PDF[\/gdlr_button]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Capitular Communiqu\u00e9 \u201cYou Will Be My Witnesses\u201d addresses issues such as the mission of the Legionaries, their identity and belonging to the Regnum Christi, and vocations promotion.
