During August, Fr. Carlos Guti\u00e9rrez, L.C., Director General of the Legionaries of Christ, visited the cities of Medell\u00edn and Bogot\u00e1 to participate in various activities with Legionary communities and members of Regnum Christi. During these encounters, he reminded everyone that evangelizing means learning to look at specific individuals and asking oneself what they need at that moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medell\u00edn<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Visit to the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi
<\/strong>On Saturday, August 22, Fr. Carlos visited the community of Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi in Medell\u00edn. He shared breakfast with them and presided over the Eucharist in the community chapel. The celebration was particularly festive due to the consecration anniversaries of some of the members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his homily, taking the Virgin Mary\u2019s words \u201cLet it be done to me according to your word\u201d as a starting point, he reminded them that surrender to God is renewed each day: \u201cA \u2018yes\u2019 given twenty-five, thirty, or twenty-four years ago is not a \u2018yes\u2019 that was given at that moment and is now over; rather, it is a \u2018yes\u2019 that is renewed every day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also expressed gratitude for the Consecrated Women\u2019s contribution to the life and mission of Regnum Christi, highlighting that their joy and fidelity serve as a sign of hope for the Church and the world.<\/p>\n\n\n

Visit to Colegio Cumbres Medell\u00edn
<\/strong>After the meeting with the Consecrated Women, Fr. Carlos also paid a brief visit to Colegio Cumbres Medell\u00edn. During the tour, he visited the monument commemorating deceased members of the school community, including Fr. Jorge Herrera, LC, and the two staff members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit to the Vocational Center and Novitiate in Colombia
<\/strong>On Sunday, August 23, Fr. Carlos traveled to Rionegro to visit the Vocational Center and the Novitiate. There, he met with the formators and subsequently held a talk with the novices, during which they discussed religious life, religious profession, and vocational discernment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the afternoon, the official photograph was taken, and he presided over a public Mass attended by the novices, students from the Vocational Center, their families, and Legionaries from Medell\u00edn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his homily, Fr. Carlos focused his reflection on Jesus\u2019s question to His disciples: “But who do you say that I am?” He reminded them that for someone discerning their vocation, the primary question is not “What am I going to do with my life?” but rather “Who is Christ to me?” for it is only through a personal friendship with Jesus Christ that one can understand the mission He entrusts to each individual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He concluded by praying that the Vocational Center, the Novitiate, the communities, and the families might be places where many young people can encounter Christ personally and discover\u2014with freedom and joy\u2014the mission to which God is calling them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That evening, bringing the visit to the Vocational Center and Novitiate to a close, Fr. Carlos shared dinner with Legionaries from the various communities in Medell\u00edn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit to the service offices
<\/strong>After breakfast, Fr. Carlos visited the administrative offices of the Colombia-Venezuela-Ecuador Territory and met with Ana Yancy Garc\u00e9s, Executive Director of the territory’s schools, and Mar\u00eda Nelly Agudelo, Director of the Regional Service Office.<\/p>\n\n\n

After concluding his visit to Medell\u00edn, the Father Director General traveled to Bogot\u00e1 on Wednesday, August 26. The key moments of his stay were as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bogot\u00e1<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Visit to the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi
<\/strong>On Thursday, August 27, Fr. Carlos visited the community of the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi in Bogot\u00e1. He presided over the Eucharist and afterwards shared a meal and some time of fellowship with the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his homily\u2014delivered on the Memorial of Saint Monica\u2014he focused his reflection on faithfulness. Drawing on the words of Saint Paul, “God is faithful” (1 Cor 1:9), he reminded them that consecrated life is sustained not merely by the strength of the initial “yes” or one’s own capacity to persevere, but above all by the faithfulness of God, who calls and continues to accompany each person throughout her vocation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Connecting this faithfulness to the mission, he also discussed the Gospel image of the “faithful and prudent servant” who knows how to give “food at the proper time” (cf. Mt 24:45-46). He encouraged them to maintain a heart attentive to people’s concrete needs\u2014capable of listening, accompanying, and discovering how to bring Christ closer to each individual. He also recalled the gratitude expressed by the last General Chapter to the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi, acknowledging that their prayer has been “a true and irreplaceable pillar” for the Legion.<\/p>\n\n\n

Meeting with Regnum Christi in Bogot\u00e1
<\/strong>One of the highlights of the visit took place that same afternoon during a meeting with members of Regnum Christi in Bogot\u00e1. The gathering began with a Eucharistic Holy Hour, during which Fr. Carlos led a reflection and subsequently gave the blessing with the Blessed Sacrament. Afterward, there was a time of fellowship with RC members and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his reflection, the Director General emphasized placing Christ in the Eucharist at the center of all apostolic activity. He noted that before speaking of mission, evangelization, or the transformation of society, an apostle must repeatedly return to being with Christ\u2014allowing Him to look upon them and letting Him reignite their hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drawing on Jesus\u2019s call to “keep watch,” he encouraged Regnum Christi members to live with an awakened heart, ensuring that their faith, vocation, and mission do not simply become a matter of routine. He reminded them that evangelizing means learning to look at real people and asking what they need at any given moment, inviting everyone to personally ask Jesus in the Eucharist: “Lord, whom do You wish to reach through me?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He concluded by expressing his hope that the Regnum Christi community in Bogot\u00e1 would be one that the Lord finds “awake, serving, accompanying, evangelizing, caring for people, and seeking new ways to bring them closer to Him.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day with the Legionary Community and Visit to Colegio Cumbres Bogot\u00e1
<\/strong>Friday, August 28, was dedicated specifically to spending time with the Legionaries of the Bogot\u00e1 community. In the morning, the Director General presided over the Eucharist\u2014celebrated on the Memorial of Saint Augustine\u2014after which a group photo with the community was taken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his homily, he presented the priests with the image of “tending to the oil in our lamps,” reminding them that the fruitfulness of their ministry stems not primarily from experience, pastoral methods, or the responsibilities each one holds, but rather from personal union with Christ. In this context, he revisited a call from the last General Chapter to renew the Christ-centered nature of Legionary life, summarizing this invitation with a simple phrase: “It is not simply a matter of doing more. It is a matter of returning to the center.”<\/p>\n\n\n

After Mass, Fr. Carlos paid a brief visit to Colegio Cumbres Bogot\u00e1, accompanied by the school\u2019s director, Fr. Alfredo Hern\u00e1ndez, L.C. He toured some of the facilities and had the opportunity to greet the staff and members of the school community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit also highlighted the importance of the educational mission within the Legion\u2019s apostolate. The Constitutions expressly include education and culture among the spheres of apostolic action and present the formation of apostles\u2014called to exercise leadership in the service of Jesus Christ and the Church\u2014as part of the Legionary mission (cf. CLC, no. 4).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the day, Fr. Carlos spent time socializing with the priests. After lunch, he enjoyed fraternal fellowship with the community, and later that evening, during dinner at the house in Ch\u00eda, there was an extended opportunity for dialogue and a Q&A session with the priests.<\/p>\n\n\n

Diaconal Ordination of Fr. Cristian David Guti\u00e9rrez, L.C.<\/strong>
On Saturday, August 29, Fr. Carlos attended the diaconal ordination of Fr. Cristian David Guti\u00e9rrez, L.C., held at the Jord\u00e1n de Sajonia Chapel within the Santo Domingo Convent in Bogot\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Eucharist was presided over by Msgr. Edwin Ra\u00fal Vanegas Cuervo, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bogot\u00e1 and episcopal vicar for religious, who conferred the diaconal ordination upon Fr. Cristian David. Family and friends, Legionaries of Christ, and numerous members of Regnum Christi were present for the celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fr. Carlos had the opportunity to greet and speak with Msgr. Vanegas, as well as to offer special support to the new deacon and his family during this significant moment in his vocational journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the celebration, he also joined the meal and social gathering organized for family, friends, and Regnum Christi members. This marked the conclusion of his visit to Bogot\u00e1 before he headed to the airport that same afternoon to continue his journey to Quito.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
