With over 5,000 followers on Instagram, the only former military member and Korean within the Legionaries of Christ reaches hundreds of young people through his unique blend of Asian pop culture and a deep love for the Catholic Church. Brother Andrew Sanguu Kang shares his journey toward priesthood, set to culminate at the upcoming World Youth Day in Seoul, South Korea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cMy path to the priesthood began with a rebellion. I left Korea to escape my family and my faith, but God had other plans. In the U.S., I met the Legionaries of Christ and experienced a vibrant, joyful, and liberating Catholicism. This led me to enter the novitiate in Cheshire in 2013, where I professed my first vows in 2015,\u201d he shares with Aleteia<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Brother Kang grew up in a traditional Catholic family and often felt suffocated by “rigid expectations” in both faith and creativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt 14, I left Korea for the United States in search of freedom\u2014from my family and my faith. Ironically, it was there that I encountered the Legionaries of Christ and discovered a dynamic, life-filled Catholicism I had never experienced before. This encounter rekindled my faith and set me on the path to the priesthood.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
