{"id":10515,"date":"2022-03-28T05:00:46","date_gmt":"2022-03-28T11:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/legionariosdecristo.org\/?p=10515"},"modified":"2025-08-12T19:51:23","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T19:51:23","slug":"the-fr-agustin-gomez-lc-helps-ukrainians-from-poland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/subdir.legionariosdecristo.org\/en\/blog\/2022\/03\/the-fr-agustin-gomez-lc-helps-ukrainians-from-poland\/","title":{"rendered":"Along with volunteers in Krak\u00f3w, a Legionary of Christ priest assists Ukrainians in Poland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Father\u00a0Agust\u00edn G\u00f3mez, LC, is originally from Irapuato, Guanajuato, and is currently in Krakow, Poland, leading a group of <strong>helping Ukrainian refugees, whom he assists with clothing, food, and a place to sleep<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine has raised alerts worldwide, and the displaced, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), amount to\u00a0<strong>1,534,792, who have fled this war<\/strong>\u00a0since February 24.<\/p>\n<p>Father Agust\u00edn G\u00f3mez, LC, was ordained a priest in 2020, and that same year he was sent to <strong>a community of the Legionaries of Christ in Poland<\/strong>\u00a0to support work with young people in Krakow; he never imagined that life was preparing him for this moment:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe situation is very intense,\u00a0<strong>every day we go to the train station with volunteer youth to receive women and children who have left their husbands and older children<\/strong>\u00a0to fight in the war. With volunteer youth, Boy Scouts, Regnum Christi families, and the enormous solidarity of the Polish people, we are supporting them by providing clothing, food, and a place to sleep,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Overcoming evil with good<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Regarding the overall situation, he explained: \u201c<strong>There is a lot of fear that the war will spread here<\/strong>\u00a0or that a larger-scale war will begin. Gasoline has run out in the provinces due to panic buying, and there is fear of cyberattacks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He assures that the exodus is impressive, \u201cbut\u00a0<strong>the help coming from people is even stronger and more hopeful<\/strong>, the Church through Caritas and other well-organized institutions; it\u2019s a miracle to see so many good hearts that, despite evil, are overcoming evil with good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Father Agust\u00edn asked for support: \u201c<strong>We need your help through prayer and sacrifice,<\/strong>\u00a0with financial support; and if you are near Poland, with clothing and food to support mothers with small children and the elderly. I thank you very much, and God bless you.
